Multiples

Another good thing about multiples-- starting a new daycare tomorrow

After spending the first 18 months at an in-home daycare, they start at a center tomorrow. I'm freaking out. They'll be the youngest, smallest, and (DS1) baldest. There's about 15 kids in the 1.5-2.5 toddler room.

When we went to visit last week, they loved it. They took right off to play and couldn't have cared less that I was there. I know this place is the right decision, but I'm just nervous about the change. Nervous they won't know what's going on. Nervous that they'll get something stolen and cry. Nervous some big kid will be mean to them. Nervous, nervous, nervous.

I just keep telling myself: at least they have each other... at least they have each other... at least they have each other...

I honestly don't know what I'd do if I only had one kid.

  • It will be great! My daughter started at a home daycare and I felt like I didn't know what was really going on behind closed doors.  We moved her to a montessori school with other kids and it was hard for the first 5 minutes after drop off  and then she was fine.  The nerves last only about 2 weeks for her.  We love it and she has been fine.  I feel like with lots of teachers around, there is less that can happen.  JMO.  They will do fabulous!

  • I am sure you remember how nervous and upset I was when Jenn (our nanny) moved away and we put the girls in daycare.  Well, it was a rough first week or two but they LOVE it now.  They talk all about their daycare friends and teachers, and are so happy.  Plus, they are learning so much stuff from being around other kids.  It's cool.

    Hugs, mama.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • I felt the exact same way when I left my boys at Mothers Day out for the first time in the fall. They were the youngest (12m) in their class. My Ryan couldn't even walk and I was so worried he would get trampled. When I came to pick him that day the teachers said Ryan cried for the 1st 15 min & Mason came over to console him. I teared up!!

  • I felt the same way when we switched ours to a more preschool-style daycare at 13 months, where they were the youngest  by several months. They will do great! Just don't do what I did and stop by mid-day to see how they are doing. There was no crying when I dropped them off in the morning, but when they saw me mid-day they fell apart, which made me fall apart, which defeated the point of stopping by to see how they were doing. Sad

They adjusted so quickly and they love their new school, and I am grateful that they are learning so much from the older kids (they are more advanced at skills that I wouldn't have known to push at home). And their teachers tell us that if one is sad the other will give them a hug. I love having twins!

  • aww I hope they have fun.

Our girls are starting at a center next Wed and I'm a little nervous. The saving grace for us is it is brand new and only about 50% enrolled, so they shouldn't be too busy and the girls should get a lot of loving.

This is exactly what my mom said to me when I was worried about my girls starting daycare at six months.  Now, they flip out if I try to put them down at home, but when we get to daycare they don't mind one bit.  They immediately start playing with the toys and their friends.  I'm sure it will be great (although very hard on the mom:)

  • Thanks, ladies. It actually went really well. They took off to play after a few nervous moments. I was a crying mess, but I at least left two happy boys behind. The true test will be tomorrow when we go back.
