Anyone else on 17p shots AND vaginal progesterone?**UPDATE**

Today we confirmed my length is at 1.7 with funneling. I got my first of 2 steroid shots for the babys lungs just in case today and will return tomorrow for my second and last. Dr said the vaginal progesterone was shown to help lengthen my cervix but wasn't done a lot. He said that if it was his wife, he would put her on them. I was just wondering if anyone else has done both at the same time? I was googling it and I found nothing

Sorry I didn't provide any history! I got a cervical cerclage at 14 weeks, started 17p shots at 16 weeks and will remain on them till I am 36 weeks. But since my cervix is still shortening my dr suggested me doing the vaginal progesterone as well. He said it has been shown, but not proven to help lengthen the cervix with my type of issues. I had never heard of it being done so I was wondering if side effects with all the progesterone made you feel generally bad. I just had some steroid shots so I have not started taking the vaginal progesterone because I didn't want so many drugs in my system at the same time plus I was feeling a little funny from them. I am feeling better today so I will do my vaginal progesterone starting today. I will update the board on this! Hopefully I don't have horrible side effects.

    I'm not but I'm curious about this also. I am on the shots but have wondered if I could be on the suppositories as well for my cervical issues.
    BFP #1 May 2008: live miscarriage at 12.5 weeks
    BFP #2 February 2009: Beautiful baby girl born at 33weeks 5days after 8 weeks of PTL, hospital bedrest and mag sulfate
    BFP #3 September 2010: miscarried at 6.5 weeks
    BFP #4 January 2011: Cerclage placed at 12.5 weeks, live miscarriage at 14 weeks RPL testing May 2011 - FOUND Factor V Leiden and slight autoimmune issues! Never so excited to have something wrong with me!
    BFP #5 August 2011: Aspirin and Lovenox - trying one more time!IT'S A BOY!!!

    I am not on both - I just use the suppositories.  My MFM said that if it is prescribed at 16 weeks, they believe shots are most effective.  By 20 weeks, research shows suppositories are most effective.  BUT, if you start on shots, you stay on shots.  It didn't really make sense to me, but it's a medical research things... I wouldn't even begin to try to understand!

    FWIW..I am currently getting weekly P17 for my IC and it hasn't helped. I went from 1.9 to 0.40 in a week while on bedrest and the P17.

    BUT..I have a beaking AND funneling cervix and I am also 3cm/60%/-3 as well so I think my PTL is a little more progressed than yours, also like the pp stated the shots are MOST effective if started prior to 20 weeks and I didnt start my P17 until almost 25 weeks because that was when they found out about my IC.

    I'm not saying it WONT work for you because I know people who have started the P17 and it really did help but so far it hasnt done anything for me...

    I would't expect it too, but it can't hurt. I have a cerclage, which is doing all it can, I am still pregnant but shortening. I have been on 17p since 16 weeks, I don't know if it's helping more than likely it's not because IC doesn't really have to do with hormones. BUT Dr said it wont hurt, so I went ahead and and doing it. T&P to you.

    I too am on both, but I just started the vaginal progesterone. I actually was the one that brought it up because my cervix is shortening. I am hanging around 2cm, but that is shorter than the 3 it was 2 weeks ago.  My doctor said that he usually doesn't start ladies on the vaginal progesterone until they are at 1.5, but if I wanted to start them I could.  I jumped on it, I mean any extra step I can take for the baby I will (ya know!?) 

    I have been on 17p since 16 weeks and I am now in my 24th week..

     Are you having contractions? I have them very sporadically. Maybe one an hour or so. I think that is why my doctor wasn't as concerned since they are not frequent. But they still worry me.  Heck, what doesn't worry me these days?!
