I just had DS2 and I wanted to share about our sons circumcision. They used a small plastic ring that is supposed to fall off after about 10 days. Ours unfortunately got stuck and DS2 got a yeast infection. It is healing ok now but it has been very painful for DS2 and I think he is traumatized because he goes crazy whenever we change his diaper. When they discussed circumcision they did not explain the use of the plastic ring. We ended up taking DS2 to the ER to get removed and the pediatric urologist said they never use the plastic ring because it does get stuck somewhat often. So hopefully u won't have any problems but just wanted u to be better informed than we were!
Re: If u r getting ur son circumcised
My Ovulation Chart
We had the string one done on ds1 and had no problems but it took forever to heal.
We had the plastibell down with ds2 (12 weeks old) and had no problems. Every doctor uses a different method for what they feel comfortable doing, and unfortunately they all come with risks. Ours fell off after 6 days and has healed like a pro.
It is a horrible thing to happen and I am truly sorry that your little man is going through this. Hopefully in the next few weeks he will begin to forget what happened and no longer hate diaper changes.I certainly would call the doctor who did it to tell them what happen and hopefully this will not result again.
Honestly, I think the best thing to do is take your DC to the pedi uro for a circ after they're released from the hospital. I've just never been impressed by what I hear OB or Peds doing for circs in the hospital. There's no reason it needs to be done there a day or two after birth (I'm Jewish, we wait 8 days). Ours was done by a mohel, I witnessed the whole thing, no complications and I thought it was done very humanely. DS later saw a pedi uro for an unrelated reason and he remarked on how good his circ was. so look into your options on this if you're considering a circ.
OP, sorry your DS had complications. I hope he feels better soon!
How terrible. "I'll cut off a piece of your ***" should be a threat reserved for cheating husbands, not something a mother does to her tiny baby.
OUCH!! Poor fella
He is better now; right?
They don't do them that way @ the hospital I am delivering at. Thanks for the info this is good to know...
Judgemental much? If you have some factual, helpful information against circumcisions feel free to post. Comments like this are mean, rude, and useless.
Speaking of cutting things off, why don't you cut off your fingers so we don't have to read anymore simple-minded, ignorant remarks you have to say...
Simple minded is thinking you have the right to alter your childs body for cosmetic reasons.
I had both my boys circumcised and they didn't have a ring on theirs. That's odd. And both the boys heald really fast.
Maybe ask first to see if they do that because I had never heard of that.
It's a GIRL!
Are you still talking?
I am, but since I am talking to someone who circumcises and buy giant plastic ride on toys for their children I dont expect a very good conversation.
I know I shouldn't admit this but I actually find your snark entertaining. I circumcised my son (with a lot of research and discussion) and am still comfortable with our decision so I don't really take you seriously- but I just find the rude, "in-your-face" attitude pretty amusing.
Oh, you poor things; you, for having to witness your baby boy in pain, and him for experiencing it! I'm so sorry.
In our case, we're bringing it up with the OB this coming Friday. Both of our families have medical histories that pretty much SCREAM we have to have one done for our little guy, so it's just a matter of weighing our options at this point. The cons far outweigh the pros when it comes to the subject of leaving our kiddo uncut. Thank you for sharing this information, though, as it will help those of us who are still doing our research!
I agree... Ignorant people are always entertaining to listen to!
And my LO LOOOOVES her "plastic toy".... Let me know how your LO is doing with their glass sippy cups and plates.
Are giant plastic ride toys bad for kids now too? What if they are BPA Free?
The plastic ring is supposed to fall off on it's own. The pediatric urologist said they usually use it if there is some abnormality with the penis making circumcisions difficult. There was a string around the ring that is supposed to fall off or be cut and then loosens the ring and it falls off after about 10 days. The string never fell off and so the ring got stuck and the skin/tissue around the ring started to get swollen and developed a yeast infection. Once they removed it, his penis started to heal and looks much better!
When our son had his done, all hey told us was to put A&D ointment on it and leave it alone, big mistake!! The skin around it reattackhed it self and formed and infection around the tip (think of it kinda like a intertube), we had to take him to a pediactric urologist and they had to cut the skin bridge and pull the skin back, lets just say that he wasn't happy (he was 18 months at the time). He is now 2.5 and it has healed fully, it was very sensetive for quite a while. I agree that they need to give better instructions on how to take care of it.
what medical history would call for circumcision?
You're right... it's YOUR choice, i just get frustrated when people try to be rude and_b*tchy just because they are having a bad day (or life, in some cases)... I don't even have a boy, but I would still get the procedure done, and i do appreciate that you were being helpful with your information!
Every OB is different. They rarely use the plastibell. Most of them use what is called a "Mogan clamp" or a "Gomco". It's very simple and most babies are given a injection that numbs them and they sleep right through it. This is why it's important to ask you're ob what they use and make sure they use the injection and not the numbing cream because the cream sucks and does not do anything. I assist with circs so I have seen all the different ways they do it.
I bet your medical history calls for some shock therapy.
Also, OP, I am extremely concerned for you son. It looks as though aruiz1982 has an unhealthy attachment to your son's penis. I would look out.

Hypospadias and chordee are 2 I can think of off the top of my head. It wouldn't happen in the traditional fashion, but would result in a circumcised penis.
Actually with hypospadias, pediatricians do not circumcise the newborn because they use the foreskin for reconstructive surgery later on when the infant is older, usually around 18 months or so. By using the infants own foreskin for reconstruction there is a better chance of the surgery being effective and less risk of rejection from a graft.
The only "medical history" indications that are recognized by the AAP are phimosis, paraphimosis, and balanoposthitis. However circumcision does increase the risk of meatitis....
Just some quick info
I really can not believe I am going to feed your craziness, but here I go. What if I am circumcising my son due to religious reasons? Does that make me a horrible person too?
STFU crazy woman! Who gives a what you think about any of our LOs penis', I'm sure OP doesn't! Keep your judgments to yourself.
BEST THING EVER!
...as opposed to...? a glass toy you might buy your children?
I know, that's why I said a circumcision wouldn't happen in the traditional sense, but the result would be a circumcised penis!
I'm not vested in the discussion per se, just wanting the antagonist in this scenario to leave others alone!
