Human Milk 4 Human Babies

Hi!

I was wondering if any of you have experience with this organisation.

. Every time I pump I get about 8 oz. (currently trying to deplete my supply because this is wayyy more then my LO needs) I have about 200 oz. of BM in my freezer (baby is 11 days old btw) and although I'm planning on going back to work  I think that I will still have way more milk then I need.

What do you ladies advise? Should I hold onto all of it for now and see if my milk decreases when I go back to work? Is HM4HB a good way to get rid of some extra milk?

  • My supply was still regulating then, too and I thought I would have oversupply forever. I didn't. I am making what he needs and not pumping much to store now. I would hold onto it and see what happens...

  • I wouldn't make any decisions really until your baby is a few months old. If you feel you have enough stashed, though, and just want to get rid of a bit here and there, HM4HB is great. I gave away some milk on it. If you hook up with a mom that needs milk on a more ongoing basis, she might give you some storage bags which is a help.

    Are you exclusively pumping?

  • I donate through HMFHB and I love it! Definitely keep some stash for yourself but if you've got a plentiful supply why not share it? I personally keep 50oz for my DD and donate the rest every once on a while ( I had about 1000oz to donate the first time, nd 50  to 200 oz each time thereafter
  • I am mostly pumping. Trying to switch over to just nursing but its a slow process. She doesnt empty me out enough with nursing and then usually still needs a bottle afterwards.

Thanks for the advice, I will probably hold on to what I have until I go back to work in 4 weeks and see how it goes =)

  • When DS was about 3 months, I had a decent stash that I'd considered donating through HM4HB, but at the time there wasn't anyone near me with a need. I'm thankful I didn't because DS has eaten his way through that stash since I returned to work. Pumping at work was stressful for me and my supply took a hit. Hopefully you won't have that kind of an experience, but I wouldn't give it all away just yet!
  • I think that you should keep at least some of it. I too was an overproducer when my son was very small and had a large freezer stash that I was considering donating. I am relieved that I did not - I started graduate school in August and within probably two months or less, I was wiped out. Pumping at school was hard to do, I was beyond stressed and my supply tanked. Without that freezer stash, I would have had to make some very difficult decisions. Just be aware that your supply may fluctuate. Congrats on your new baby and your BF success, though!
