If Your LO Has Excema On Their Bum

What do you put on it?  We've tried Aquaphor, the California Baby calendula lotion,  Aveeno Excema Therapy, and hydrocortisone cream but none of those work.  Currently we are trying baby powder on his butt, lots of air drying, and changing him often to see if it's aggravated by dampness.

Is there anything else you have used that has helped to clear it up?

Re: If Your LO Has Excema On Their Bum

  • My LO doesn't have eczema on his bum, but his torso and arms. Oatmeal baths work wonders for it (put oatmeal in a sock and then into bath with LO). Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to help his diaper rash, hence my post below. GL!

  • We just keep up with the Rx hydrocortisone.  This is on DS1 so he doesn't wear diapers.  Most of the time it looks like we beat him.  He says it doesn't bother him so I try not to worry too much.

  • Cera Ve cream (in jar not pump) head to toe and then aquaphor on the spots in the diaper area. If they get bad we use his prescription with aquaphor on top of that.

  • DD had some excema on the back of her thigh, near her bum. I put something called "Triple Cream" (found at walmart near the diaper rash cream) on it - and it cleared up in just a few days - I was very impressed.

We've tried several things and Triple Cream seems to work the best....It still doesn't clear it up all the time but it seems to help more than other things.

  • Thanks for all the suggestions!

  • the only thing that worked was a combo of 4 creams. 2 of which are prescription. Here is what we do every night. Bath with cediphil soap then on the most troublesome spots we put epiceram (prescription), then if she has any inflammation we put cloderm (prescription hydrocortisone0, then on her entire body eucerne calming cream and then to seal it all in aquaphor. Then put her PJ over here and put her to bed. She also had to take an antihistamine before bed which is also a prescription to keep her from inching.

  • Cortisone cream (per my pedi) cleared it up when she had diaper eczema.  We use Ceravue on the rest of her body.

I'm doing the same then that @cali2va is doing, from my daughter... She have eczema all over her body. It seem to be working great. She can now walk around with just a t- shirt with out digging at her skin. It's only been one week and her eczema is clear.
  • last time daughter had a rash on her bum it was because of something she ate and got a rash-- we use Aveeno baby eczema lotion on her arms and legs because she had patches of it btween 6 & 8  months. She's now a year and it's mostly cleared up.
