All inclusives... Mexico? Other? Hot climate??

OK, we have GOT to get away before it is too late with this pregnancy. I'm desperate to sit on the beach or by the pool... of course, being due in July, once it warms up in this area it will be too late for me to travel. I'm thinking in March would be the best time to go.

We can't spend too much, so I don't even know if it is practical or not... is it possible to do something like this for under $2K?? I don't really want to plan much, I just want to sit and sun bathe and read and eat.

Is Mexico the best place to go? Has anyone been to an all inclusive that they would rec there? I've never been to Mexico... which areas would you rec?? Which should be avoid??

Literally any input would be appreciated, I've got to get moving!

EDIT: Tips on flights would be great too!

EDIT AGAIN: For this Riviera Cancun place... where did you fly into? And out of?

  • We stayed at El Dorado Royale in Playa del Carmen for our honeymoon and it was heaven.  It was an adults-only resort (not the nudie type, just the no kids type) and the food was wonderful.  I can't remember how much it was, but it couldn't have been crazy expensive because we had to foot the bill for our wedding and honeymoon.  The best part (besides no families) was that they had a lazy river connecting each little bungalow to the swim up bar.  I swear I didn't walk for a week--I just floated everywhere.

  • We went to the Excellence Riviera Maya for our honeymoon and it was awesome.  If you click on "specials" on their page, I think they probably have some good deals.  We got married in Jan. and I don't remember our honeymoon being ridiculously expensive.  The restaurants are great and we had a really fun time there.  The French restaurant is amazing, btw.  I think we ate there 3 or 4 nights.  Stick out tongue

Did you mean Riviera Cancun? There are three options, but Riviera Maya isn't one of them.

I was just going to recommend Excellence Riviera Cancun.  We went last summer and it was perfect.  I seriously can't think of anything that would have made it better - especially for the price.  I think we went for 5 or 6 nights and it was right around $2500.  The food was good, there's 24 hour room service, the people are super nice, activities each day/night if you want to participate and the beach and pools were both nice.

I try to recommend this place to everyone.  We had such an amazing time, I want others to go there, too!

Ditto the Excellence Riviera Cancun.  We have been to 3 different all inclusives in Mexico and this one is my fave.  Everything about it is wonderful!  It's a little more than 2k but so worth it.  There are other lots of good all inclusive options though for less than 2K if you are really on a budget.  Ahhh, now I really want to book a vacay!

Do you have any suggestions? When I said 2K, I meant including flights... but now I love the Riviera Cancun...
Also, where did you fly into and out of?

Yes, sorry.  It's in Riviera Maya but it's Excellence Riviera Cancun.  We flew into the Cancun airport and had a hotel-arranged driver pick us up.

  • When we went, our cost was for everything (all inclusive resort, airfare, shuttle). We did take cash for tips but they don't expect it (it's technically included). We just felt that some people went above and beyond.

We used a travel agent, too. I can't recall her name but I probably have it in my email if you'd like me to get it for you.

  • Usually when you book all inclusives, whether through a TA or a website like travelocity, your total price will include everything (flights, food, hotel).  We always fly out of Austin and into Cancun.  We always have to layover in Houston, although I think our TA mentioned once that there was a flight that was direct out of Austin (not sure about that since austin have customs)  Also, make sure you have a passport as you need it now to fly to Mexico.

I always book through our travel agent cause to me its easier.  She can't really get us a better deal than online but I feel like its safer if anything goes wrong.  Let me know if you want her name and info.

We just went here in October.  It was $1800 for 2 people for 3 nights 4 days (flight, hotel, and transportation to the hotel).  It is heavenly and the food is amazing. Highly recommend it!!

Please do let me know the name of the travel agent. So, you didn't book through the hotel website itself? I'm not sure if the rate they quoted included airfare (I assume not, because it didn't ask where I was coming from).

How did you book it so that it included flight, transportation, etc?

  • I haven't read PP's, but just wanted to recommend looking at cheap carribean dot com. We used them for our honeymoon and had a great experience. We got an all inclusive vacation (including airfare) to Barbados for around 4k but it was longer time/farther/etc.
  • We used a travel agent b/c we booked it a week before we took it due to a last minute job change that made it possible.  I think any travel agent can handle it for you
