WWYD: donate or sell?

I have a box of decent- albiet random- things I ve been holding onto thinking I would have a yard sale. I am on a super mission to de-clutter and part of me wants to just give it away to goodwill ....our neighborhood hosts a yard sale the first weekend of June- so I have an "end date" in sight for the clutter to leave although hanging on to the stuff for 5 more months - is it worth it?

Re: WWYD: donate or sell?

  • Do you have a place to put it and have it out of your sight?  If I had to look at it, I would just get rid of it.  Also, is there much to get rid of, that would bring a decent return, making it worth holding onto the stuff until June or worth participating in the sale itself?

  • Ehh, wasting a weekend in June is worse to me than losing the money. I would donate.
  • Once I start cleaning something, I just want it gone so I would just donate it. If you put it someplace, you could forget about it and then it will still be there, cluttering up your space.

Good point and June is usually a crazy month.

  • I'm all about donating. I hate wasting time.

  • Unless you have a decent amount of other stuff to sell I would probably donate.

  • I would just purge it all.. I just posted over on the Nest last week about donating to Schoharie flood victims.  Especially household stuff.  The clutter just makes me crazy, and I think yardsales are such a hassle.
  • Yes! We sell in the yearly garage sale and have made $200 each year. If you have a place to store it I say go for it.

  • If you think you'll be adding more to it, and it's pretty much out of sight until then, I'd try to sell it in June, since a sale is already organized for you. Whatever you don't sell can go straight to SA or Goodwill after the sale.

This! When I'm decluttering, and decide it is time for something to go, I want it out of the house. If the yard sale was a couple weeks away, I'd consider waiting, but definitely wouldn't hold onto stuff for 5 months.

  • If I thought I could be successful selling it on ebay I'd ebay it. Otherwise I'd just donate it. I'm way too lazy for a garage sale.
