WDYT: "racy" or not?

https://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/colorado-student-banned-yearbook-over-racy-photo-201606793--abc-news.html

I am pretty sure that if that were my daughter, I wouldn't be fighting for her right to have a picture like that as her senior portrait.  Sorry, guess I'm too modest, but that's just a little too over the top and sexual.  And why does this chick need such a sexy picture as her senior portrait?  That's ridiculous.

What do you think?

  • That's a senior picture? Looks away boudoir to me!

There was a photographer who was really popular when I was in HS and a lot of the girls who did their senior photos with him did nude photos. WTF?

The outfit in that picture is really just the tip of the inappropriate iceberg. The pose and the sultry look bother me more than the outfit.

When I was in HS, there was one main photographer in town.  He did all the pics for everything.  By the time my siblings were in HS, someone else had taken over but there was still just one place.  It was discovered that he had hidden cameras in his studio and was taking pics of the people changing, etc.  Crazy!!

To answer the question... I think it's ridiculous but I'm not surprised about it at all.  There are so many kids whose parents will fight for them about anything regardless of the situation, policy, etc.  She said that she felt like they "weren't allowing her freedom of expression."  It's amazing to me how many teens (and their parents) don't understand the difference between this and following a dress code policy.  What are they going to do when they get a job and have to wear a uniform?

Surely, the school has a dress code which I'd imagine this does not follow.   If I were the principal, I wouldn't let them run it as an ad either.  I don't think it's appropriate for a yearbook.  (Sorry to go off on a rant, I deal with dress code issues all the time and it drives me crazy.)

  • That's definitely inappropriate.

Honestly, I'm surprised to see a school that gives the students freedom to choose a picture for the yearbook. While the kids at my school took pictures in our own outfits and props for fun, the one for the yearbook was always a tux for the guys or a black cape/thing for the girls so that everyone looked the same.

  • Yes, inappropriate!

same here- everyone's yearbook pic was the one taken at school.

This is what I was thinking.  The photo appears way out of dress code for the school so I imagine that alone would prohibit the photo from being published.  I think it's tacky and no way in hell my daughter will have a senior photo taken like that.  On another note, when I was in high school, there was this one photographer a ton of us got our senior pics taken out at and that photographer took a similar picture to this where there was no shirt on and a shawl was used to cover up, but it covered up much more skin and it was more of just head shot.  I saw several friends with that photo.

We could submit our own photos wearing whatever but they had to be forward-facing and only a head shot, from shoulders up.

  • Extremely innappropriate.  No way in hell my daughter would be caught wearing that, for any reason, and definitely not for a photo shoot.  It's not even a shirt!!
  • This is her senior portrait, so it's safe to assume she's 18, right? You know, the same age as every other Playboy playmate, right? Yes.

The picture alone is not all that racy. And since she's technically an adult, it's not like her parents could stop her (had they wanted to, which is sounds like they didn't).

Appropriate for a high school yearbook, either as a senior picture or in the back in the senior pages? Not at all, and of course they have every right to refuse it.

Fighting it when your tacky pictures gets cut from the year book? Trashy. Helping your daughter promote her trashy pictures? Even worse.

Did they take the picture down?

That is my question.... I don't see a pic.

Not necessarily.  Summer babies (myself included) graduate high school at 17.

    True.

Manx I had to Google the picture. It wasn't in that link for me, either.

When I click on the link I still see the pic... And ditto MMT, I graduated at 17.

This, pretty much verbatim except we could choose our own modest top to wear for the portrait.

Me too.  And I can tell you that my parents would have FLIPPED if my senior portraits (not for the yearbook) looked anything like that.

    this.

  • I didn't read the article, but it's a senior portrait for the yearbook?  Too racy!!!  Our seniors take their picture in a suit and tie or some other smock thing...they all look the same.

  • We had photos for the yearbook and then "Senior Pictures". Senior Pictures were usually done by a photography you hired. However, I have never seen a senior photo that looked like that.  Also, the outside-photography senior pictures I took were given to family. I think I also used one of the photos for my rush application at A&M.
  • Not appropriate at all.

I remember a photographer like that! His first name started with a D, last name N. I went to AHS here. He was SO popular... ew.
