Swaddling?

So, last time with DD, we just used receiving blankets to swaddle her.  Now, they have all of these swaddling products.  Which do you recommend?  Swaddle me, Halo, others?  And do we need the swaddle wraps and the plain blanket sleepers?  Do you just use the blanket sleepers when they are too old to swaddle?  Help, please!

Re: Swaddling?

  • We used the muslin Aden and Anais swaddle blankets, then Halo sleep sacks, now a blanket.

  • We used something similar to the SwaddleMe at first.  It was some JJCole thing.  He HATED the Halo at first, but now we use that all the time.  He grew out of the SwaddleMe things in the first few weeks, then we just swaddled with blankets, then we moved back to the Halo and he likes it.  So I guess what I'm saying is try a few different ones.  Don't just buy one kind.

  • I wasn't such a big fan of the swaddleme. It didn't seem to contain DS as well as the Halo swaddle, which I LOVED and could not have lived (slept) without.

We did use the A&A muslin swaddle blankets in the veeeery beginning, before he figured out how to escape from them. They were nice and light weight since he was a summer baby.

  • DS was addicted to the Miracle Blanket.

  • We used Halo swaddles until she had a fit and didn't want to be swaddled anymore (about 6 weeks).  Then we used Halo sleep sacks when the weather cooled down.

  • We'd use the Halo sleep sack when he was little, then as he grew we'd use receiving blankets

  • I only used a+a muslin blankets to swaddle.  I had one contraption for swaddling and the velcro made so much freaking noise it'd scare him.  Google "escape proof swaddle" for youtube.  IT's amazing.

  • We're still swaddling here. I like the Velcro kiddopatamous swaddlers. I would get two or three in small, and two in large.

Youtube "escape proof swaddle". You'll need a piece of fabric about 24 inches long and 5 inches wide. Thinner fabric works best. I just cut up one of those thin flannel burp rags. In the video, they use a dish towel, but I found it to be too bulky.

  • We use Swaddle Mes. We used to use receiving blankets, but I find the Swaddle Me to be much easier to use. I bought the Halo sleep sack swaddles but I never used them because I could only find them in fleece and I didn't want LOs to be too hot.

I haven't used any of the other products, so I don't know how they work.   We just swaddled with a regular blanket and the difference is that the Woombie allows them more freedom with their arms. Both DS #1 and this LO (DS#2) both like(d) to sleep with their hands close to their chins or on their chest, which regular swaddling doesn't really allow for without them getting their hands loose and startling them.  The Woombie allows them to move their arms/hands while still keeping them confined.
