Hi there,
Last month at our check up my doctor recommended we see a chiropractor for my DD (5mos) flat spot. We were given also given a card for baby begins. I am a little nervous about a chiropractor though. Anyone else have to do this for their LO? We were recommeneded to Dr. Christopher Plate. Anyone else use him?
Re: Chiropractor for flat spot?
We took my son to a chiro for his torticollis (limited range of motion in his neck) which had caused the right back side of his head to shift forward causing a flat spot. The NICU nurses had warned us that we might see this due to his limited positioning while in the NICU for 2 months.
Our chiro was able to help A LOT with the torticollis and she said with a lot of repositing we could correct the flat spot. My son was on the brink of rolling over and by the time we did start the chiro we were not able to reposition him, he did it on his own. Meanless to say the flat spot was not corrected by the chiro and we got a DOC Band which we were hesitant to get but I am so glad we did and would do it again in a second. We stoped going to the chiro after 6 weeks and a lot of change in his neck but we hit a wall where he stoped making progress and our pedi said it was ok.
Best of luck!
We did go to Crainal Tech in Dallas. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED them! (especially our tech, Amy!) We went a few times to get measurments and talked with their tech and our chiro to see if my son was at a good age for it, or if we had more time to try reposition. We ended up moving forward and got it soon after. It did bring a lot of attention to his head but we did it durring the frist part of the Rangers season last year so I decorated it in a Texas Rangers theme. It turned out really cute. There are a lot of different things you can do to decorate it everything from stickers to wrapping it with Wrap Buddies.
I am so glad we did it. We had our for about 10 weeks and was at a point where there was one spot that wasnt fully fixed but there was a huge change in the shape of his head we really didnt see until the end. We choose not to get a second band. I would highly recommend it and we would do it all over again if we needed to. The only problem we had was my son has very sensitive skin and the band would give him little heat rashes on his head. This is not true for all babies, just a difficulty my son had.
Let me know if you have any questions.
