Someone dear to my family died when I was about 20 weeks pregnant with #3. We went to the hospital multiple times to visit her. If he is being kept in a sick ward (as in, not an oncology ward) I would be more wary about going.
If you are concerned, wear a mask to/from his room, wash hands really good after visiting. If you can make it as a teacher, I think visiting a hospital is ok. Kids are the worst!
I visited my grandmother while pg with DD2. During my last pg, DD1 was admitted to our Children's Hospital and I stayed overnight with her (she was in the ER, PICU then acute care).
I would. I visited a friend in the maternity ward at about 25 weeks pregnant, and just made sure to wash my hands/not spend any unnecessary time there.
I work in a hospital and did while I was pg. If there is any type of isolation precaution, it will be posted on the door and you would check in with the nurse. Just make sure you wash your hands.
My only sister was dying when I was in my last trimester. I visited her daily during the week and brought her ice cream and cigarettes. She had AIDS and was septic and was in the Infectious Disease Ward. Of course this was before MRSA and other superbugs were as prevelent as they are now.
I don't know that I'd visit an inlaw.
This made me chuckle. Sorry about your sister, auntie. Must have been very rough.
I would have no issue going to the hospital while pregnant. To me it is no different than walking through my doctors office which you do all the time while pregnant. As I do anytime I go to the doctors office (pregnant or not), wash your hands well and don't touch your face before you do so.
Re: Would/Did you visit someone in the hospital while pregnant?
