Moving out of baby/toddler tub...

Hi, Ladies.

When did you/are you transitioning from the baby tub to the regular tub? My LO sits up just fine and loves the bath, but the regular tub just looks so much bigger than he is that I am nervous.  WDYT? Thanks for your thoughts.

  • I was nervous too. I just made the transition last week. She was getting way too long for that baby tub! I got her some bath toys and I got a mat so she wouldn't slip and slide everywhere. She loves it and she's just fine in it! She splashes around and has a good time. I probably could have switched her a month or maybe even 2 months ago, but was too worried lol.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one.  Your little girl is adorable, BTW. :)

  • Sounds like a good reason... Not being sarcastic at all.  Poopsplosions are highly over-rated.

  • DD stopped losing her balance at around 5 months, and I moved her to the big tub around 6.5 months. She was crawling by that point, so would have NOTHING to do with the little tub anymore.

    Thank you :)

And to the PP who is scared about the cleaning aspect. I was too. I just used some "natural" cleaning products, then rinsed the tub out, let it dry and then let her take a bath.

  • We moved him out at 6 months, once he was steady enough to sit up on his own.  It's been great, now we can bath both boys at the same time and it's been so much easier.

  • I moved DD to the regular tub once she was able to sit up really well on her own (so around 6 months..ish). I got a tub mat at Target to keep her from sliding. She LOVES being able to move around, splash, etc. To echo PP, baths really are so much easier now.

  • Buy a bath chair.  I got one for $22 on Amazon, and we have used it everyday in the real tub since she was 6 months old. She is free to play with her toys, and I don't worry about her slipping.

  • We have a ginormous baby tub (eurobath) but I've put my LO in my mom's regular tub and he did great!  Just a word of advice: get the soft spout cover thingy.  The first thing he did was play with the drain and would have nailed his head on the water spout.  I ended up just putting a plastic cup over it since it was a temporary time but I plan on getting the spout cover once we make the switch.

DH does bathtime in our house and he doesn't want to do it upstairs where the regular tub is so for now his baby tub is in our master bath garden tub.  I have a feeling he'll do this until my son is about 3.  LOL.

On a side note, my LO is Isaac as well!  Love the name!  :)

  • We really need to transition him, but I need to get the non-slip stuff for the tub first.  I agree, the big tub looks so big, but he is climbing all over the baby tub and I think he needs more room to move.

  • We moved DD into the regular tub when she could sit independently, around 5 months. We put a non-slip mat down and she loves the tub. For a few months she would crawl in it and now she'll walk around in it (I do try to discourage her, and I am always present the entire time she's in the bath). I only fill it a couple inches. She loves bath time and I think she loves it more now that there's more room.

  • My ds has been in the reg tub for umm about 3-4 months now.
  • We did it about a month ago. We just put a bit of water in the bottom (maybe 2"), throw in some toys, and he has a blast. It's so much more fun than the baby tub.
  • We've been using the big tub since about 2 months old but only occasionally. We used the bath hammock and a couple inches of water. Mostly though, H would wash her in the shower, pass her to me for drying and then he would shower. Once she was able to sit up on her own, we stopped doing the shower routine and went full time in the big tub. She loves it. We tried the ducky tub a month or so ago and she hated it.
  • He went into the big tub when he could sit up - maybe between 5-6 months? My neighbor gave us a bath ring but it was after he'd been in the tub without one for awhile so he didn't like to sit in it.
