Am I overreacting repost from 0-3 months

I have been real lucky when it comes to my daughter spitting up.  She really have never spit up at all.  Tonight after drinking a bottle she was burping and all of a sudden she spit up about half of the bottle that she drank.  She doesn't have a fever (98.8 rectal), we haven't changed anything.  I pretty much go by her for when she wants to eat but I think she may have had a bottle about 2 hours ago.  She drank about 3 oz then and about 4 oz this time.  I am thinking that she may have ate to much but then I thought babies don't overeat.  I am a first time mom and I don't want to call my pedi on call for something that is not an emergency.  After I took her temp she was smiling at me so she is not hurting.  What does everyone think?  Am I overreacting?

  • My pediatrician was just telling me that spitting up simply means they have no room left in their tiny tummies so it has to come up. She said as long as there is no choking along with it don't worry. My LO spits up all the time and sometimes she does choke. :( It's so sad. If yours is happy I wouldn't worry about it.

  • Sounds normal. LO spits up a lot and somtimes chokes. It's just what they do. She ahould be fine.

  • It could have been a gas bubble trapped that she had milk on top of. In regards to babies not overeating I heard this to be true only for breastfeeding directly from the breast - I don't think it applies to bottles

  • It's normal!  My DD spits up all the time.  It's so frustrating.  My first spit up maybe a handful of times now my second spits up every day (she also has reflux.)  Be glad this is her first time :)

  • thanks everyone, she fell asleep, woke up smiling.  We played and she drank another 2 and a half ounces with no spitting up so far  :)

  • Our pedi said as long as they are happy afterwards it is usually just a sign that they ate too much. I have never heard of babies not being able to overeat. I have always heard the opposite that they don't always know when they are hungry/full and often confuse gas and other tummy troubles with hungry/full feelings.

  • Thanks everyone, she has not spit up since.  She was a little cranky last night and didn't sleep as well as she usually does but that seemed to be happening for the last few nights.  She seems to have extra bad gas during the night that is waking her up. But she is playing and smiling at us so I think it was just an isolated incident.  I have an appointment to get her shots on Tuesday (not really looking forward to it) so I might bring it up then.  Thanks everyone for calming me down  :)
