We bought a house!

Holy poo! We went to see this house today walked in the door and immediately fell in love! We put in our offer and it was accepted right away. It's 3100 square feet and has 4 bedrooms plus the basement could easily be made into a bedroom. Ahhhh! I'm so excited! Sorry just had to brag a little Stick out tongue

Re: We bought a house!

  • Whoo-hoo!! How exciting--I'm jealous. We were planning on buying a house around Aug or Sept this year, but we'll hurry that up a bit now that I've gotten a BFP...baby is due in Sept, and I don't think moving when I could pop anytime/have already popped will be any kind of fun...

Haha, we have only been looking for a couple weeks and we didn't really plan on actually buying for a couple months but we found this house and fell in love! They always say when you know you know! I'm actually glad we can have this done and over with before I'm too big to help with anything or on bed rest.

We're being a bit tight on the budget, so we planned for it well in advance. I'm expecting just what you described, so I'm not even looking for a while yet! lol Besides, house prices are still way too high in our town right now (thank you, oil industry), though they are falling, so we're waiting on more reasonable pricing, too. But yeah, I don't wanna be huge and trying to move, either!

The market here (I'm in Canada) has just gotten good and it's a great time to buy. The house is going to need some serious paint work because it was an elder couple that had owned it since the eighties so the colors are a little odd. But the home inspector said the only thing is the shingles will probably have to be done in the next couple years.

We're just hoping the prices fall a bit quicker as the year progresses. Housing prices aren't all that bad elsewhere in the state (I live in Oklahoma), but since they started drilling like crazy out in our area, it's brought more and more people in than there is housing available, so the prices are stupid high right now. Not to mention, there's a small 4 yr university in our town, so that always brings in a bunch of kids needing places to live, and the school doesn't have much in the way of dorms.

Eesh...the roofing can get ridiculous. My parents were constantly having to reroof their house, thanks to tornadic weather, so they finally replaced it with a metal roof. Way more economical, and it actually looks nice on their house.

  • Congrats! Post pics when you can!

Buying a house is still a few years away for us, unfortunately.

  • Congratulations!

That's what happened to us.  It was the first house we saw.  We left and the realtor took us to 2 more houses.  We breezed through the second, and when she struggled to open the lock on the third we said "don't bother."  We went back to the first house and made an offer a couple days later (it was an older home so we had an architect friend walk through with us before we put the offer in).

We LOVE our house.  Unfortunately, I think we're going to outgrow it soon, but it's been the perfect place for us and we knew it immediately.

Hope your closing process is smooth!
