Non Clicky Poll about cribs

Do you think it is weird/"wrong" to have an espresso stained crib for a baby girl?  My dad, mom and DH are trying to convince me she should have a white, off white, or light colored bright crib.  I planned to do the dark crib with pink, black, white, damask, etc.  I think it is going to look fine, but when I google images for girl nurseries they are mostly white.

What do you all think?

  • nope! We just got one put together today. we painted the baby's room in native lilac from Valspar. We have dark wood floors in our house and taupe carpet in the bedrooms.  message me your email- and I will email you a pic of the crib and room. we do have white baseboards, and trim.     I think pink and white looks good. if you know you will have girls...but we also chose espresso, because it could be used for  a boy or a girl.  but when I think of white- I think boy.

  • DD has espresso furniture now.  This baby (girl) will have natural wood colored, which is what DD had when she was a baby.

  • I have the espresso colored crib for DS. I have to admit if #1 was a girl I probably would have bought white. I am glad now that I got the espresso instead of white. I just like the way it looks better.
  • Espresso brown furniture is so classy, it looks good with any color theme for any gender. I think white can actually be harder to coordinate with existing decor since it stands out so much. Get the crib you want, you're the one who's going to be looking at it all the time anyway. :)

  • We are getting espresso everything so I'm totally on board.
  • No I love stained furniture and hate painted furniture. I would never have a white crib regardless of gender too easy to show everything.  Honestly I love dark wood with pink or purple it is so classic!

  • I love dark stained furniture, it's all over our house.  With our first, we were team green and I got dark stained furniture.  We ended up having a boy, but I see nothing wrong with a girl having dark furniture, especially with the linens you described.

I had the exact crib color, as well as the pink, black and white damask for my DH! Theres nothing wrong with it and was complimented a lot for the modern style and clean look it gave. Dont listen to boys haha

Er, no.  One of the reasons I like espresso cribs is because I consider them gender neutral.  I don't care for white cribs - they show wear a lot faster, imo.  We have an espresso crib, and I love it for either boy or girl.

  • LOL no its not wrong!!  We just spent the day at a massive baby store with tons of cribs all set up with various bedding - lots of little girl bedding with dark cribs (I think it's a nice contrast - the feminine bedding with a dark crib) - it looked wonderful!

  • No way!  It will look beautiful!  I love that color.  I wish DD's crib was that color b/c that is the one we are using again.

  • *rolls eyes* Oh please, we have a dark cherry crib for our baby girl! Get what you like! Besides, she's not going to care (AT ALL), the room is for you, so you're the one whose got to like it!

  • Go with the espresso!!! I think it will be lovely :) Be different (although, I really don't see anything wrong with a dark crib for a girl...)

  • We're doing Black and we're team green so if we have a girl she'll have a dark crib. I think its perfectly fine.

  • I love a dark crib for a girl.  If we were having a girl I would have done a dark crib with pink and brown (or maybe black) decorations.

  • I bought a black crib before I knew what I was having. I think it's fine for either sex.

  • Nope.  We bought a cherry crib and painted her room aqua...both of which aren't by definition "girly," but it looks great.  Do what you want and trust your instincts with your nursery plans.

Personally, I think white cribs look prettier in pictures than in person.

  • Thanks everyone!  I had her crib set all picked out and my dad wanted to go with us for one more look at selection (and he is paying).  He and DH ganged up on me LOL  They found this white crib with all this detail and said that was the "one."  They said even if I didn't like it she needed a light colored crib.  My mom, who couldnt go today because she is sick, has been saying light crib for weeks.

I want the espresso and that is what we are going to get!  I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy in thinking that it toally fits for a little girl!

  • Nope, when we went looking for cribs, we did not know what we were having at that point. We wanted espresso regardless of boy or girl....Somehow though, we ended up with a white crib. It was on sale Black Friday when we bought our crib, but at that point, we knew it was a little boy.

  • We're team green and got all espresso baby furniture.  It matches all of our other furniture and I think it's very classy looking.  Obviously I have no problem using it for a girl.  Smile

  • Boy or girl, I wanted cherry wood everything. SO and I eventually went with oak because it's sturdy and gender neutral.

I can't stand white cribs. Dad and Step-mom were trying to give me my little sister's crib (she's 5yrs) for LO. DS already has an oak (light brown) crib. White would not match. Plus, it's white.
