January 2012 Moms

Keep your fingers crossed for me! XP to 3rd tri

Hi ladies! As you may know, I have been on modified bed rest since December 9th for preterm contractions and a shortened cervix. I spent a couple days in the hospital getting that straightened out and have been on Procardia every 4 hours since. I have been doing exceptionally well (no contractions or other worrisome symptoms) and now I am only inches away from being full term.

Unfortunately, I had to change to a perinatologist from my wonderful birth center until I hit January 10th because I am not allowed to deliver at the birth center before 37 weeks. Well, this morning I lost my mucus plug and while I know it can be days or weeks after you lose your plug that you go into labor, I am now scared. Not that I think it has anything to do with me, but my mom went into labor the day after she lost her plug with both my brother and me.

I am so close (58.5 hours, if you want to be technical!) from being able to have my birth center birth and I feel like I have come all this way and I would hate to deliver so close and miss out but I understand that rules are rules.

I would love to keep baby in there as long as I can, but like I said, I feel lucky to have been able to make it so far after the preterm contraction and short cervix fiasco. Could you please keep me in your thoughts? Thanks, girls. You guys are awesome.

  • You do know that your MP can grow back right? Losing it doesn't really mean anything. If you start having bloody show, then I would start worrying. Or if you have contractions between 3-5 mins, or 5 in one hour.

  • Oh yes. I totally know it can grow back. I just feel like every day I have stayed pregnant has been a blessing, given that I had that run in with preterm contractions. I was (and again, I know this also can mean nothing) 80% effaced at 32 weeks with a cervical length of 1.5cm. I just feel like I am SO close and I want to hang on these last few days if I can.

  • Good luck!  T&P that your baby stays put just a little longer.
