Growth Spurt ?

When/do toddlers go through growth spurts? DD is leeeetle. She's right on par up top in 18-24 month sizes, but on the bottom still wearing 12-18 month stuff. With all the seasonal sales right now, I'm wondering if I should stock up on stuff for next year or not. Do kids generally stick to one size through all seasons once they're in 24months/2T +? Or is it a total crap shoot and not worth the chance that she'll be too big for stuff I buy now?

Re: Growth Spurt ?

  • I wouldn't and I can't stock up either. DS received some Gap shorts that's we're 18-24 mo size for his 2nd birthday and he's wearing them now. He recently outgrew his size 2 shorts too. Pants he's 3t because of length. I can't buy ahead for him because I just don't know what size he'll be next season.

  • I have trouble buying ahead for the same (but opposite) reason because DS is so large/tall. He's in 3T now, but I feel like the older they get, the longer they stay in a size, because growth slows, at least somewhat. But I wouldn't be confident buying him 3T for the summer, because who knows?? I don't know--not much help, just wanted to commiserate.

  • Bottoms are flexible, especially for girls. Many pants for spring become capris for summer!! I refuse to buy Abby more jeans even though hers are becoming "high waters" right now. I call them pedal pushers ;)

Abby is a 5 slim or XS/S in girls and can still fit her little behind in 4T and up stretch bottoms. They just get short (good for under dresses). There's a few 3T ones she can still wear too.

I never go by size anymore. If it fits, it fits.

We are doing this too. M's pajamas are 3T (she is LONG), but she wears 2T pants and 2T tops. Sometimes I can use a 24month dress over 2T pants/jeans and it works as a shirt instead of what used to be a dress. :)

  • I'm on board with "if it fits, it fits."  Molly turned 1 year old yesterday and she fits just fine in size 9M pants. They are just now becoming tad short, but it's not a problem. She wears 12M onesies or one-piece jammies because of her long torso. She's my little teeny thing. :)

Her brother, on the other hand, is a giant. He's in size 5 or XS/S and he just turned 4 in December.  He's tall but slim in the waist and hips.
