Hi,
LO is almost 7 months old (a preemie, so almost 6 months adjusted) and a tiny guy (12.5 lbs) but loves his food!
The Dr suggested we add a third solids meal to his routine. I'm trying to figure out how to do this because we're usually on our way home from school (and he's sleeping) around 5:30, which is the only time. He takes bottles during the day and then his 'breakfast' and 'lunch' two hours later. Has anyone done a dinner where you combine the two (ie offer a half portion of solids and finish off with a small bottle)? I read this in Baby Whisperer, and it seems to be the only way to squeeze in another meal.
Also, for moms who add rice cereal to LO's bottles for reflux, did you also add oatmeal to fruits and veggies? I want him to get plenty of whole grains etc, but I worry that might be grain overload since he already gets about 2/3 serving of rice cereal daily (2 tsp in each bottle, so almost 3 tbsp total).
Thanks!!
Re: Oatmeal and solids (xp to 6-9 months)
I'm not sure I totally understand what your routine is - sorry!
I think it's perfectly fine to combine solids with a partial bottle.
My guy is about the same age (7 1/2, 6 1/2 adjusted) and we are doing solids 2/day. Right now, we give him solids when we eat so that he can join us at meal time. I SAH, so I feed him when my other son and I eat lunch. I also feed him when we all have dinner. I'll probably add the 3rd at breakfast (before his first nap.)
I'm not sure it really matters, to be honest, although I don't like to do it right before bed because it makes him very spitty and I don't want to interfere with his bed time bottle.
I also think you're OK to put off a 3rd meal for a while..it seems early...we just added meal #2. (My kid is 18 1/2 lb.)
