Bradley Method

Has anyone used this method?

I'm leaning towards doing a natural birth, and just learned about this. What are your thoughts on it?

Is there a instructor your recommend? I live in Auburn, but willing to travel to Seattle & Bellevue.

I know Leanne (BluLu) used it, and I think a few others on here went through the class as well.

I didn't do Bradley, but I've had two natural births and it was well worth it. Best of luck to you!

It's a little tricky to find Bradley instructors because they are not allowed to have websites. Try the American Academy of Husband Coached Childbirth (AAHCC) website directory.

We did the 12 week series with our first LO and was able to have a natural birth. I really recommend them! We had so much fun and the group is small so you really get to know the other couples and the instructor. We had them in Shoreline with a lady called Kathleen Nelson (I think- last name might be wrong, its been a few years now). Anyway, I just felt like I was really prepared with a lot of knowledge. Do you have any specific questions? Just let me know

When I was pg with DS1 we did our class at Tacoma General (Multicare) although it wasn't a "Bradley" class per-se. The instructor was Bradley trained and conducted it as such, I've had to natural using what I learned in that class.

I also just want to add that there are a few different types of birthing classes, and I think just generally being very educated on the birth process etc was the most helpful thing to me in labor. Also, having a doula for your first natural birth is also a huge help!

Just wanted to add that I found a lot of strength in Ina May's books. I did not feel like I would respond well to Bradley Method and felt my body would tell me what to do, so therefore I didn't take any classes but drew on the strength of the stories in those books. I know it sounds cheesy but it worked for me. FWIW I was an L&D RN for 4 years before this baby so I had the A&P part figured out already, as well as what labor looks like (and feels like from DD1)

I usually lurk but wanted to say that it's not tricky to find Bradley instructors. The Bradley Birth website has a directory, that's how I found mine. https://bradleybirth.com/Directory.aspx The link lists Bradley instructors for all of Washington along with their contact info and websites.

OP- I just finished up my Bradley classes last month and really enjoyed them. I knew my husband would never read a book on natural childbirth so taking a class was the only way to get him involved. He hardly looked at the workbook but retained so much info. Out of all the dads in our class he was usually the first one to answer questions, make comments or ask for clarification. I wasn't sure if he'd be a good labor coach before the class but now I'm confident that he'll be a great coach.

You may also want to check out the Natural Birth Board. The ladies there are very knowledgable and encouraging and can help answer questions you may have about natural birth.

I took the Bradley Course with DH. Although I was unable to have a natural birth for a variety of reasons (2.5 days of early labor with contractions 2-3 minutes apart= no sleep). I found the course to be a great experience and was a wonderful tool in the labor and birth process. I went into my labor without fear and felt well prepared. There are not many Bradley Coaches in our area, however, I did find mine from the Bradley Method site. I had class with Lexie Stratman, she's pretty far up north.
