I have never heard it myself. So the only thing I think of when I see it is the Greek God of War, but his is typically spelled Ares but I've seen Aris related to him before.

Good question. I've never heard it as a name but there's a condo development by that name near NYC. It's kind of an unfortunate name, though -- not ugly but said aloud it sounds like "heiress."
