sidecar-ed our crib today...loving it so far.

I leaned in and looked up at her mobile with her for a while, it was heavenly.  I just hope she sleeps okay tonight.  Last night was a record (9 hours, 40 minutes!), so I hope I'm not messing with a good thing.  Maybe I'll keep the snuggle nest in her crib for a few nights?  She's been napping in her crib the last few weeks, so hopefully looking over at me when she opens her eyes at night will be enough to go back to sleep, which it always has been.

If you sidecar, did you start out that way from the beginning?  How did the transition go?

Re: sidecar-ed our crib today...loving it so far.

  • Awesome! If she's already napping there, then nights will hopefully go well.

We side-carred, but not from the beginning. We've been all over the place with sleeping arrangements, though always in our room. Started L in his pack n play, then did part time PnP, part time bed sharing, then side-carred, then bed shared again. The side car was awesome, highly recommend it. Good luck!

  • We did this with DD until she was 10 months and ready to move into her own room. I loved it!!! We used to fall asleep every night holding hands :*(   The transition to her own room was really easy since she was used to her bed/mattress (2 nights of a little extra fussing at bedtime...that was about it!).

All future babies will be in a sidecar-ed crib from day 1!!

  • Lurker here  :  Just heard about this today (from another post) & thought it sounded like a great idea. I was wondering if there are any issues with the gap between the crib matress & my matress? Is it not an issue at all? Does babe sleep on the opposite side of the crib from my bed? Does anyone have a picture thay can share? TIA

Darn it, I just typed a response and thebump ate it. Grr. Anyway, you definitely do not want a gap between the two mattresses. And they should be the same height as well. Here is a link to a good instructional blog about it. Good luck!

  • We started at 6ms.  It has worked great, we got so confident that we moved the crib away from our bed.  Big mistake for us. She woke up about every hour and a half for a few days.  I ended up bringing her back to bed sharing but I wasn't getting any sleep.  So we went back to side car and she sleeps great, if she wakes up I just put my hand on her back and she is sleeping.
