Wish I knew... (sort of long)

what the heck was going on!!! It all started yesterday morning...

Had a doc apt at 7:20am. She checked me and said I was dilated to 3 CM and 50% effaced. When she was still in side she said "this will take a sec I am shacking things up". Before she left the room she told me I would have a little spotting. She left the room and I wiped myself and there was bright red blood and a little mucous mixed.  I called her back in to make sure this is what was normal.  She said yes but if it was any more blood then that to call L&D.  I left and headed to Walmart to get some much need things for the house.  Before I started my shopping I went to the bathroom.  Enough bright red blood came out and filled the toilet and when I would wipe the entire toilet paper was covered.  I called my SIL (she has 2 kids) to see what she thought.  We sort of had the same opinion... finish up my business for the day and before I headed back to the house (45 min drive) check myself in the bathroom again.  Maybe my body just needed time to settle down from the exam.  So I started to do my shopping in Walmart and I could feel the blood coming out.  I went back in the bathroom and there was still a lot of blood.  So I gave up on shopping and just called L&D.  They said they would probably just tell me to go home and rest but since I am a 45 min drive they had me come in.  They also told me that my doctor striped my membranes this morning (nice of her to tell me).  They put me on the monitors and baby looked great.  I only had 2 contractions for the first hour and a half.  I went to the bathroom and the bleeding had pretty much stopped.  After the bathroom they put me back on the monitors and I was having contractions every 10-13 minutes.  The doctor came in looked (not checked) at my cervix and said they didn't want to check it because things have been messed with enough today.  They sent me home with the instructions of come back if contractions are 5min apart for an hour or if I start bleeding again.  I went to the bathroom at 3:00am and started having contractions every 5 min until 3:30 then they stopped.  I woke up around 8am and went to the bathroom again and big mucous brown snot chunks are coming out of me...  I will have a few contractions 5 min apart but then they go away after a 3 or 4 of them. 

AM I GOING TO HAVE THIS BABY OR WHAT?!?!?!  I just wish there was some way of knowing what all this means.  It could be something or it could still be weeks, it is getting so annoying!!!

    Ummmm she didn't tell you or ask you about stripping your membranes???? That doesn't seem right.

    thats what I thought too... and I thought it was strange to do that to someone when they are 38 weeks.

    It sounds like things are happening, which is what stripping the membranes is intended to do.  Why she would opt to that without discussing it and getting your input if you weren't anxious to get the baby out or having any type of discomfort or distress you'd been complaining about to her.  But your membranes have been stripped, it sounds like you may be losing your mucous plug, and you're contractions are becoming more regular.  Nothing you can do to stop t at this point, so try not to let any of this upset you and just enjoy the journey...it's an amazing experience and you'll only have your first birth once.  Don't let a poor call on your Ob's part ruin it for you, it's a once in a lifetime experience!!!  At least at 38 wks you're full-term, so good luck!!

    what is wrong with your OB, did she even ask you if you were ready to get things going??? I would have been so irritated, 2 weeks early is too early for me. newborns are fussy enough, the longer they "bake" the better!  Do you have health issues or something that would make her do that?

    Anyway sorry to be so negative about your doc, but it definitely sounds like she did "shake things up" and you'll probably have this baby in the next few days! GL!

    She didn't ask at all... I would have said yes if she did, only because I am so over being pregnant.  I was just a little upset that she did it and didn't say anything and sent me on my way.  There are 5 OB's at my office and she is the only one I don't care for.  She is also new to the office.  I didn't care for her before this happend and this didn't help.  I had to have my cervix checked at 19 weeks with a trans vag ultrasound and she for some reason made me have a full bladder.  It was really strange to me because no other doc made me have a full bladder with a transvag.  She was annoyed with me when I was in pain as she was doing it.  I just hope she is not the doc on call when I go into labor.
