SAHMs with morning sickness?

Okay...heres my little pity party.

I am having terrible and constant morning (all day) sickness.  Along with other joys of pregnancy: extreme fatigue and crying spells.  My husband is working out of town this month, so its just me and DD.  I've tried different things, but nothing has seemed to help much.  DD is great and so is sweet---but it's still alot of work. Anyone else have this problem before?  How did you cope with being a mom to a toddler while dealing w/morning sickness????

Re: SAHMs with morning sickness?

  • We just tried to struggle through it.  I wish I had some magic solution for you!  We've watched a lot more Sesame Street than I'd like, but sometimes, you just have to do what you can to get through the day, especially with your DH out of town.  Sorry you're feeling crummy.  Sad

  • Thank you!  Feeling crummy, but also very thankful.  And yes, we've been watching tons of cartoons.  I feel bad about that...but I feel better knowing I'm not the only one.  :)  Hopefully in a few weeks this feeling will pass.

  • Truthfully, I focused on myself and DD only.  Aside from the absolute need-to-do's (like dishes or anything else to keep the house from stinking and taking care of the pets), I just let the house go to hell while I played w/ her as much as I could and rested the rest of the time.  Hope you find some relief soon.

ETA:  Yes, there was a TON of tv watching here, too.  Smile

  • Ohhh I so feel you! Still sick most days...other than tv/painting/play doh etc...I dont have much advice. I mostly just push through as well as I can and just try to keep her happy/occupied. Something that helps me probably 60% of the time is this tea: https://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/pregnancy/morning-wellness-tea.html

    Good luck, its tough!!

  • I'll join the party!

My only saving grace is that my daughter is 4 and I can put on an afternoon movie and she'll stay on the sofa while I doze next to her.  That little catnap makes all the difference in my day.

The rest of the time, I try to do activities that require sitting - coloring, crafts, reading, playing w/ her dolls or play sets.  No running outside or craziness that requires me to be too mobile.

It's hard but hopefully in a few weeks we'll all be feeling better and will have a bit of energy back!

  • I was always working when I had morning sickness.  I know I thought it sucked and would have rather stayed home, but looking back it was probably good I had something to distract me at least.  I don't have any words of wisdom, but I will share a funny/crummy story with you of when I had morning sickness the second time around and was at home alone on a Saturday with my oldest....

The ONLY thing I needed to do that day was buy diapers for DS.  That was it.  Easy right??? Nope!  First off, we had just moved and had tons of laundry to do.  Also, I was in that awkward stage where nothing really fit... I finally found one random pair of sweat pants and finally got off my tired and sick butt to take DS out to the store with me.  Well, we also had nothing to eat that sounded good to me at all (verrrry picky tummy with my morning sickness) So I just didn't eat all morning, which was bad of me to do....so we go outside to the car, and one tire is nearly flat.  Great.  Now I need to go to the gas station to put air in the tire first....so we do that, we pull away and two seconds later I have to puke, so I pull over to a random parking lot and lean out the door to get sick.   Ok.  I can make it.  Next we drive to McDs and go through the drive thru.  Walmart is right next door, so I park and we eat in the car.  I inhale my food.  Bad idea :-(. I had waited too long to eat, ate too fast....I puked the entire meal back up into the bag :-(. And peed myself.  I bawled and drove home!!! Then I texted my plight to my BIL (we are close) and I was on the last diaper for DS.  My BIL ended up saving the day and coming over with a pack of diapers and some food, lol.  I felt so pathetic!! :-(

  • I just napped whenever DD did and went to bed when she did. And we watched more TV than I'd care to admit. Otherwise, I mooched a lot of goldfish crackers from her snack cup to keep my stomach from feeling empty.

  • DD is my first LO so I was still working while I was dealing with all-day sickness.  (The term "morning sickness" is a cruel joke, IMO.)  My saving grace was Zofran.  I got the prescription from my OB because I could not function otherwise and my m/s lasted for 22 weeks.  I hated taking meds and tried to take it as little as possible, but I couldn't get leave my couch/bathroom without it.

I don't know if you would consider taking a medication, but I thought I would mention it.  No matter what, I hope your m/s doesn't last too much longer!

  • A lot of tv and a lot of activities that required me to move very little.  I was at the worst of it during summer so we spent a lot of time at the kiddie pool where I didn't have to be right by his side but just in the general area of him.  Wish there was a better solution, but there wasn't.   I also napped every chance I got.

  • I had a 2 year old foster son through the thick of my morning sickness.  I would just throw up when I had to, and I carried a barf bowl with me all the time. At first he was very concerned but then it became monkey-see, monkey-do and he would lean over my bowl and pretend to gag and spit lol.

I also put a gate up in his doorway so we could spend time I his room that he would be safe for a few minutes if I had to runout quickly.

I was on 8mg of Zofranevery 4 hours around the clock and still throwing up like that.
