Intro and daycare question

Hi! I've never posted here before, mainly because I just found this board today. DS is 5 MO, and we live in Acworth but I work in marietta and DH works inside the perimeter.

My mom sits DS 3 days a week and DH's mom sits 2 days a week, but today she dropped a bomb on us and said that she couldn't do it anymore, because FIL is "stressed out with her being out of town 3 days a week" (she works 1 day at a dentist office, and she lives an hour and a half away.) I'm glad that she got to keep him as much as she did, but now we have to fill in her spot. My mom would gladly do it, but I think it would be too hard on her to come every day since she lives 45 minutes away. I REALLY don't want to put DS in daycare until he's a little older.Has anybody had any experience finding a part time nanny? I'm not sure if it's safe to use these sitting sites, and I'm wondering if maybe by chance someone on here may know of someone up this way who needs a nannying job. Thanks!!

  • I had several people who have nannies recommend care.com. Like everything else on the internet, you will get some crazies but you might find one. My good friend found her part time nanny by posting on FB to all our friends. Friends asked around and she found one that way.

You might also look at inhome daycares. You can look at the state webside for licensed inhome daycares in your area. I actually went this route for DS1 until he was 2yo. It was great and I found one in my neighborhood which was even better. I was against this until I really started looking into it and found a wonderful lady. My son loved it and we were both sad when we moved to a center.

  • We are also in Acworth.  A couple things to consider... we are right near Kennesaw State- you could look for a student- maybe in the Education department?  Also church is another good place to look- do you attend anywhere?  Check with your nursery director- they may know someone looking for part time work.  Our problem is that DH is not entirely comfortable having someone in our house with our kids while we aren't home.  He just prefers daycare.  It's all personal preference.  We've been very successful finding daycares that would accept our kids part time so if you go that route, I think you'll be surprised how many will accomodate you.  Right now, our kids go to traditional daycare 3 days a week and they also go to our church pre-school on my telework days.  This routine has been working well for us b/c it gives me a little extra time with them in the mornings and afternoons when I'm working from home.

  • Welcome! Try care.com or sittercity.com.  There are lots of nannies out there looking for PT work - especially students or others that have another PT time job looking to supplement up to FT. We have always had a nanny and love it. It works great for us.
