Every night, I've been throwing up. I had been throwing up blood a few times this week, but tonight it didn't have blood. I'm hoping it's a sign I may get some relief soon, but it's frustrating not being able to keep my dinner down. I've actually started losing weight at this point.
The frustrating part is my doctors don't seem to care. I was so freaked out by throwing up blood again that I went to the ER, and they look at me like I'm overreacting when I mention it to them. The first prescription didn't work at all, so I ask for something different. I ask if I should keep taking it, and he sorta shrugs at me and says I can if I want to. It's supposed to be so strong that I can't take it while breastfeeding, and he's being nonchalant about continuing to take a strong medication that isn't even working. I get the new prescription and see that it's exactly the same thing as another medicine I had taken at the beginning of the pregnancy that I stopped taking because it wasn't working.
I had to ask the second opinion of a friend who used to work in the ER who suggested I cut dairy out of my diet. I suspect it's why I didn't throw up blood tonight (although I still did lose my dinner). She also took the time to explain that while pregnant there wasn't much they could do for me because they couldn't run certain tests to figure out what's wrong. Honestly, she was more help than the OBGYNs who keep prescribing me strong medicine that doesn't work and the ER doctors who stuck a tube in my nose and left it in there for an hour while I had a panic attack!
I'm so sick and weak, and I feel like I'm not getting help from my care providers. I really hope I feel better once I give birth because I'm not entirely convinced it's pregnancy induced nausea at this point. I don't know whether to ask for a new medicine or if I should accept defeat and that I'm only going to be able to stomach one meal a day until the baby is born.

They took some blood for some tests, but they haven't mentioned possible gallbladder problems to me. I get the vibe they think I'm just suffering from normal pregnancy vomiting, but throwing up blood just sets off alarm bells in my mind. As does not being able to keep down more than 1 meal per day and losing weight at the end of the pregnancy.
I go to an OBGYN practice though, and I've seen the same doctor the past 2 weeks although I get rotated between the 5 different doctors. I'm hoping I can get a better response out of the different doctor I'm seeing this week. There's one doctor there I already refuse to let see me ever again, and I may add this second guy to that list now.
I had bleeding ulcers before I was pregnant. I would throw up blood about 3x a week. I have been taking protonix 40mg twice a day.
I am 39wks with hyperemesis gravidarum (still throwing up all the time) but no more blood. And I don't have the stomach pain that I used to.
I was taking omeprazole (prilosec) but it was not strong enough. Maybe you should ask for protonix?
