In our neighborhood there are a TON of kids that play outside every afternoon/evening. Most of them are older than Leo and Charlie - they range from about 5-12. For awhile there we were outside a lot too, and they would all come over to our house because they really liked playing with the boys. They boys just loved it, they called them collectively "our friends," and Leo especially was always talking about playing with "our friends."
So today was the first time I took them out to the garage in awhile. It was cold, we were busy out of the house, we had new stuff for the backyard, etc etc. They were excited to get out front and see their friends again, but no one came over. It turns out all these kids got motorized scooters for Christmas and they spent the evening whizzing around the street. One did come by to say hi, then left again. Leo got all excited, jumped on his tricycle, and said he was going too. I was like "wait honey, you can't go in the street!" He turned back to me with this devastated look on his face and started sobbing.
It was awful you guys. He laid his head down on the handlebars of his trike and cried and cried. I told him he could go on the sidewalk but it wasn't safe for him to be on the street. The sad part is that I think he understands that it's not safe, he was just so wanting to play with all the other kids ![]()
Soooo I may or may not have promised him that if he poops on the potty for a whole week I'll get him a scooter. Two birds with one stone...if it works, lol. Of course then I'm still going to have to deal with him not being able to be in the street like the other kids, but maybe he'll settle for having the same thing and staying on the sidewalk. Poor baby!
Re: Leo totally broke my heart today!
Aww,
Babyrabies wrote a post about this last year, I think, that had me BAWLING.
Aww! That's so sad!
And thus, the reason we live on a street w/ no sidewalks and all the houses are spread apart. And no kids. :P Just kidding, but seriously, I'm beginning to see the perks to the 'hood we're in now...
Her talking about K running after his "fwends!" just about killed me. Poor Leo!

I'm about to go settle on a homestead in the woods man. If it weren't for all those scorpions, snakes, and mountain lions, I totally totally would.
Aww, come on, I haven't seen one single mountain lion. Yet. And if we did, think of how STOKED the boys would be. I can just picture it now: "MAMA! I see a lion! It's a puma! No, it's a tiger!" That would be awesome. As for the scorpions, they're icky but it's nice having all this property to do with as we wish.
