Success after IF

Has anyone here used an egg donor?

Hi everyone,

I am new to the board. I am suffering from secondary infertility and have had 3 failed cycles (the last resulted in an ectopic). I cannot bear to stimulate eggs again and we are thinking of turning to an egg donor.

Has anyone here used one before? Are you glad you did? Did you have success?

Thanks!

Re: Has anyone here used an egg donor?

  • There are a couple of wonderful ED mammas on here and even an egg donor check in if you scroll down a bit (also one on the IF board I believe).

I've donated twice (charmically hilarious, I know...) and was pretty involved when my BFF used her non-bio step sister as an egg donor a few years ago after a dismal prognosis with high FSH and sucky AMH levels so if I can answer any questions from that angle I'd be happy to.  (she's got boy girl twins now)

Another thing to consider if cost is an influence is donor embryos.  Another high FSH friend of mine when that route and I was stunned at how much less expensive it was than donor eggs.    (She's got the most beautiful little boy and a few frosties waiting if they decide they want to try for a second child).

I know both of them had a very emotional process in grieving the loss of a biological child but they adore their kids and couldn't be happier with their outcomes!

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

  • We did. We had our baby from EUganda Aug. 2010 and she's the best thing to happen to us.

The process for the recipient is basically the same as a FET.

Do you have any specific questions I'm happy to answer. There are quite a few of us who used DE on here.

Stupid autocorrect, that should say our baby from ED in August 2010.

  • Although you are only seeing the back of her head, the beautiful girl in my siggie (trust me, she's beautiful!) is here thanks to donor egg!

I have no regret, whatsoever, about turning to DE.  Without it, I am sure, I wouldn't have a child today.  But, more importantly, I wouldn't have THIS little girl and there is no doubt that she is supposed to be my daughter!!

While I haven't updated my blog in over a year, the link is still in my siggie below.  If you go back to around November, 2008 you'll start to see my DE posts.  Also, I am very very happy to talk about my DE experience, so, feel free to ask any questions you may have!!

  • *raises hand* I did! Actually, I am very fortunate to live within driving distance of an RE that has a frozen DE bank (not many do) with a success rate around 70%. The advantages of this vs. a fresh DE cycle are that your cycle and the donor's don't need to coincide since the eggs are already retrieved, and it's much less expensive.

I need to get an updated photo of DD back in my siggy.....

  • Yep - after 4 tries with my eggs, we tried DE and it worked first try :)  PM if you have any questions!

  • DE toddler in siggy!  We got pg on our own but had an mc then went on to do 4 IVFs with my OE before turning to DE. Best decision ever made. No regrets!

Please join the check-in that gets posted every Tuesday. There are several ladies in various stages of donor egg and embryo.

Please feel free to PM with any specifi questions. No question is too personal.

  • I am jumping in late here, we've been on vacation and I am just now getting into nest mode!

I am currently 6 months pregnant with DE.    My situation is very similar to yours as this is my 2nd pregnancy.    I have a DD who is my bio child and this one will be via DE.    I can tell you I was hesitant about my feelings, etc since already having a child.    I was afraid that I would "feel" different.

I can tell you with everything I have that I don't even really think about it not being my egg.    I consider this my child regardless of donor or not.    If you have any questions at all, please PM me.

    Good luck with everything

  • Here!  We have a beautiful and amazing 4-month old baby via DE.  We moved on to DE after some dismal cycles with my own eggs.  Our first DE cycle was unsuccessful due to a previously undetected severe male factor problem.  Our second DE cycle (using DS as well) was successful and brought us our precious baby girl.  Any concerns we had about bonding were thrown out the window when we first heard her heartbeat on the ultrasound.  She is such a wonderful baby, and we delight in every minute we have with her.

    Wishing you all the best!
