Noel or Noelle?

Our baby girl is due December 22nd so we are using this as a middle name. Since it has to do with Christmas I had planned on spelling it Noel but DH thinks it looks like it would be pronounced "Noll". Her first name has three syllables and I don't want her name to be too long. Thoughts?

I agree with your DH, if you want the two-syllable name, spell is Noelle.

I have known a couple of men with the first spelling - pronounced "noll". I would be more likely to think "girl" with the latter spelling, but it really doesn't matter, esp. if her first name is obviously girly.

i thought Noel was the male version and Noelle is the feminine version. BTW i loooove the name Noelle.

I have never heard of a girl's name pronounced as "Noll" so I wouldn't really worry about it. If I saw Noelle or Noel and the baby was a girl, I would think "no-el". That being said I like the name Noelle better

Guess I'm the odd one out, but I like Noel. More obviously "Christmas" and since it's just middle name as long as it's following girly first name I don't think it matters. But I'm in the minority! :-)

We are using Noelle as a middle name for our girl as well she is due Christmas day. I think Noelle looks prettier and some people do pronounce NOEL as Noll... Though in the song it is NOEL as No El.

Agree with Pivey's 2nd thought. It's a little corny but evil would be naming her "Christmas" or "December". Or having twins and naming them "Holly" and "Ivy".

Oh please don't do it. That was almost my name, my b-day is Dec. 21. Your kid will hate Christmas if you do this, I guarantee. I was also almost Holly. My sisters bff in HS was named Mary Christmas, she was born on Christmas day. She loathes it.

PS Noelle is the girl spelling. Noel is the boy, and it is pronounced "Nole"

My friend in high school was named Noel and whenever I see it I think girl... who would name a boy that... I just don't see it... I would go with Noel
