Cloth Diapering

Bleaching to kill bacteria?

We are at the tail end of a nasty rash. The doctor said it was a bacterial infection, not yeast. I would have no idea what yeast looks like so that's what I'm going with. I'm wondering if I should bleach my diapers to kill any possible bacteria in them? I've never done this and am terrified of ruining my dipes - especially my TTs. I have a mix of fitteds, prefolds and pockets, do I need to treat them differently?

Does anyone have any experience with a bacterial infection or just bleaching diapers in general? I feel clueless. Tongue Tied

Thanks mamas!

Re: Bleaching to kill bacteria?

  • I bleach mine once every couple of months and have never had an issue. I use BG 3.0 and 4.0s, plus a couple of Elemental AIOs, and the product info just says not to bleach more than once a month. HTH!

  • I have bleached my diapers before with no problems, including TTs. I just put the bleach in the washer and let it fill up and swish around before adding my diapers. They came out nice and clean with no fading or bleached areas.
  • Have you considered using oxyclean? I've used it before, its much more gentle. I actually use BioKleen's version of it, much more environmentally friendly.
