How do I tame those curls?

Really, B has super curly hair. Right out of the bath, it's curly with those perfect spiral curls. But after she's played a while its frizzy and crazy! Or after her nap, almost looks like she was in a wind tunnel sticking straight up. It's just getting long enough to put into pig tails, but she tends to pull out the rubberbands. Anyone have any tips?

Re: How do I tame those curls?

  • Claire has the same problem.  I sometimes use kids hair tamer just so it's not totally out of control but it doesn't hold the curls, just smooths out the parts that stick up.  And she won't let us pull it into a pony or anything.  It's just wild.

  • No advice, we have the same problem.  I have put in some kid spray mouse and that does work but it also gives her hair a shiney wet look that I don't care for.  I have also been growing out her front so she has no bangs.  I love her hair when she lets me do it, but most days she wont let me near it and it is crazy, frizzy, in her face.  It drive me nutz.
  • In this weather, Rosie's hair isn't too bad. But when it's humid it's really frizzy and gets poofy. I've started working in a little bit of Suave anti frizz cream after her hair is dry, and it's helping a bit.
  • DD's hair is crazy like that too.  I use spray in conditioner spray or a detangler, but the conditioner one seems to be better.  She likes the detangler because it is a kids one and has an octopus on it.  The conditioner one is really for adults, but it works pretty good.

Truly though, her hair looks the best when it is pulled back.  I always wet it as it is easiest to do that way and gets all the hair in the rubber band instead of it being dry.  We can get into pigtails now, but before, her bangs were still too short.  Another thing I do it a couple pony tails.  Her hair isn't long enough for just one pony tail, so I do one with just her bangs, then a second one in the middle of her head (also holding in the bang pony tail), and then a third one in the back of her head that contains the second pony tail hair.  I can't really describe it, but the next time I do it, I will take a picture and post it for you.

DD leaves rubber bands in for a couple hours.  I just keep doing it, maybe someday she will leave them in all the time.  She mostly takes them out in the car seat or while watching tv.  When she is playing, she leaves it alone.

  • I have the same problem.. I use a kids detangler at bath time to just kinda tame them down a bit and that helps. I can't put anything in her hair because K will just pull them out and then cry that she wants them back in....I'll put them back  in...and she will pull them out...then cry she wants them back in... and repeat all day long. I've given up... She will just have crazy hair for now. It's especially bad days we are in the car a lot...then they really get frizzy and wild.

Ironically...daycare puts her in pigtails all the time and she tolerates it there... go figure!
