Advice for transitioning to a twin size bed?

Any advice helpful! Tried to get DS to take his first nap in his new bed today, and he would climb out and scream. I laid with him until he fell asleep, then he woke within 2 minutes, opened the door to his room, and ran and hid in the kitchen! He is now peacefully sleeping in his crib again, but I really really want to get him transitioned over soon. He is in the 99th percentile for height and he just looks rather large in his crib these days...

Re: Advice for transitioning to a twin size bed?

  • The only advice I have is maybe a gate at his door, or a door knob babyproofer so he can't get out of his room if he gets out of bed.  And super babyproof his room so he can't get in to too much trouble.  Otherwise maybe he's just not ready to transition?

Sorry, I'm no help.  We just transitioned DD to a twin with side rails a couple of weeks ago and she's done really well.

  • We gate the door to DD's room. The only thing I can tell you is to be consistent and put him back as many times as it takes. Make sure he knows you're not playing around.

  • I wouldn't start with nap time...I would start his first time at night. DD fussed a little and asked us to "way down mama" but she did fine once she fell asleep. Naps take her longer to get to bed and it's lighter so it seems to make her rougher to get to sleep, but nights are a breeze!
