Max has this persistant cough, very low grade fever, and is not sleeping. He keeps waking up crying and last night we put him in bed with us and no one got any sleep. Is this something you'd take him to the pedi for? He seems fine (playing etc.) but looks and sounds horrible. I just don't know what they can do for him, ya know?

Re: When to take LO to the dr. for a cough?
Matthew has had upper respiratory crud on and off for what feels like his entire life! I always end up taking him, which sometimes is a waste of a $15 copay but it is always my fear that he will develop something so much worse.
His symptoms sound really similar to what he is finally getting over during Christmas. We ended up just going to urgent care and they diagnosed him with bronchiolitis, but also said that a lot of kids were coming in positive for RSV. The doctor gave him a steroid at the visit then a 3 day steriod it did seem to clear it up. To be safe I went back to our regular pediatrician and she decided to prescribe a daily inhaler for him because of how many respiratory things he's had. Can't ever hurt, at least that's always my philosophy.

mine is coughing too but has symptoms of cold. i actually use hylands cough and cold 4kids even though i have a 1 year old. the stuff works and you can use it with ibuprofen/acetaminophen. it's homeopathic.
i just got weary of not being able to give her anything. since she started daycare she is chronically sick. i do have a few sources i check that differentiate between the different coughs so, so far, it's a cold.
they also make a baby version for 6 months plus. when you get fed up of hearing your little one struggling with cough and congestion, try this out.
