Changing of the Guards... wierd.

So I had to post it somewhere... I went to my 3rd dr appt yesterday.  We were able to hear out babie's heart beat "strong and healthy" from the doppler (about 14 weeks).  We are oficially in the clear to tell people ((which has already happened, but oh well)).

So before we left the office, my Dr. stated that he won't be the one who will be delivering my baby.  He is no longer practicing OB any more ((ugh boo)).  I was so excited to have the same Dr. deliver my baby who has already delivered my niece and my nephew.  I met my new Dr.  He seems nice and just a smaller version of my original OBGYN. I guess the only good news is that he isn't retiring so he will still by my gyno.

I felt like he was more upset than I was at the appointment.  I felt so bad that I didn't want to press the subject.  It was just wierd all around. Just had to put it out there...

Thanks for listening Big Smile

  • I've heard of this. Apparently OB's have to keep malpractice insurance for 18 years after the birth of their last baby because parent's can sue them at anytime before that child becomes an adult. So many of them switch to straight Gyn for the last 20 years of their career so they can still afford to pay the insurance.

  • I guess it's good you found out now, rather than later, so you still have many months to get to know the new doctor who will be doing the delivery.

  • My Dr's office has 5 practicing OBs and you are required to meet them all because your primary is not guaranteed to be available.  I have met 3 so far and like them all, but it still seems strange.  It's good that you are able to meet your new Dr. so early.

  • My doctors office has 8 ob-gyn's. I have to visit each one of them at some point for each of my appointments along the way - this is because they can't guarantee that the doctor I want to deliver my baby will be available then, so at least I will have met and should hopefully be comfortable with all of their staff. At first, I was a little upset, but now that I have met 3 of them so far, I am finding that they are all GREAT and would be happy to have any of them (so far) deliver my baby! I suppose that if I find one I am uncomfortable with, I could (in the event that my requested doctor is not available) request that one not be the first to call. Hate to hurt feelings, but in the end, I guess I need to be comfortable with whomever will be there. Good Luck finding someone you are happy with and here's to hoping they are available when you need them!
