What do you do for supper? I know there is a post below about crockpot meals, but just about every food except crackers just turns my stomach. It makes me sick almost to think about supper, much less making it.
I am sick 24/7, but sickest at night. Right now I do a small dinner. Either Cream of Mushroom soup or a bagel with cream cheese is all I can handle. Right before bed I do either a banana or apple with PB so I don't wake up starving in the nighttime.
Plain chicken and mashed potatoes have really helped me. Pancakes, or a bagel with butter are also some things I can stomach. I can also eat an ice cream cone and oddly enough, this morning hershey kisses are making me feel better!
I guess what I meant is, what do you do for the rest of your family? My DH cant cook and I need to feed him I just can hardly stomach it!
I make out a menu at the beginning of the week and try to stick to it no matter what. It helps that DD is 9 and can help out in the kitchen but my DH works 24 hour shifts so its not like there is someone there to pick up the slack. One night I was REALLY sick so the girls had cream of wheat for dinner, but other than that whatever is on the menu goes on the table.
Last night I had pasta with a small amount of butter and salt-- that went over pretty well. Other times I'll have soup or cereal. I haven't had any meat in over a week!
Sorry, I totally missed the clarification-- DH is the chef around here, something I never fully appreciated until now. But if I had to cook for others, I have to say I'd be relying mostly on takeout menus.
On the nights when I'm sick, we either order a pizza for the family to eat, or my husband steps up and will make something. It doesn't matter if it's biscuits and gravy or soup and grilled cheese. I don't get it when people say their husbands "can't" cook..
What I think I might want in the am, always changes at night. My all day sickness has gotten about better. By that I mean, it's not as intense as it was weeks 6-12. I can function now.
For dinner, I would eat whatever I could.
Chicken noodle soup
Ramen Noodles
waffles
scrambled eggs
white rice with ground beef
pasta with red sauce
bagels with cream cheese
Raw veggies or salad
My husband made everything for me that I asked for and often times I could only take a few bites. He's been amazing.
Do the best you can. Eat whatever you can get down, and then next tri, hopefully, it will get better and you can focus on more healthy, balanced meals.
I'm usually feeling better in the evening, but even when I feel "good" I'm usually not up for eating. Having three kids to feed kind of puts a damper on that. I just try to get through it, fix something that doesn't totally make me gag, or see if DH can take over dinner duty for the night. I usually get a stomach for something later in th evening around 8 and whatever it is, I find it and eat it.
Grilled cheese is easy to make for the kids so I've done that with no horror stories. I had DH get some frozen dinner type things so I don't have to worry about any cooking (chicken wings, individual frozen pizza's, etc.) and can just throw something in the oven. Also, frozen chicken breasts can go into the oven. Super easy, relatively quick and can be pretty bland if you don't add any seasoning (easy on your belly). I plan on doing that a lot.
I always make food for DD, she has leftovers a couple times a week, too. DH is on this really weird eating plan right now (Eat to Live) so he is fending for himself & was before pg, too. I told him I can't cook two sets of meals.
I have a weak stomach; so I planned ahead for morning sickness. The week after we found out, I started freezing most of our leftovers. That way if I'm not feeling up to cooking (or eating), DH still has a good meal to eat. I don't seem to have any aversions (yet) to our veggie corn dogs or veggie nuggets; so we've been stocking up on those too. Otherwise, DH cooks dinner for himself.
I eat Cheerios with milk and a cut-up banana for dinner some nights, or egg on a whole wheat bagel (yolk cooked all the way through). I thought I wanted the baked spaghetti that I made the other night but when it came out of the oven I vomited. So that's a meal my DH can have all to himself, but I have instructed him not to eat it in front of me.
I buy rotisserie chicken at our grocery store that lasts for a couple of days and the meat is very tasty. I can't wait until I can have a real meal again!
