OMG! I cringe every time.
I can't decide if it's because I'm a traditionalist and can't stand change. And that is just not part of the Happy Birthday song.
Or if it's because it's a bunch of people screaming for a length of time (I HATE noise!). <---what disorder is that, btw? I seriously cannot stand a bunch of noise. Or crowds. (They tend to go hand in hand)
Re: Anyone else hate the "Are ya 1? are ya 2? are ya 3?" thing for birthdays
This.
+1
Is it in the birthday song? The kids around here always add "cha, cha, cha."
EMT - be thankful you are clueless about it!
Basically, after singing Happy Birthday, all the kids scream to the birthday girl/boy "Are ya 1? Are ya 2? Are ya 3?" and keep going until they get to the right age, at which point the birthday person screams STOP!
OMG -- just thinking about it makes me stabby!
Especially when the kid is like 10 or something. SHUT.UP! LOL
God, I don't really like kids that much!
Oh yea, the "cha cha cha" thing irks me too.
Ok, I think it's that I don't like change! Just sing it the right way damn it! And move on!
Seriously, it's only fun when the kid is under 5 y/o. Then after they do that they sing "you're 4 years old now, you're 4 years old now ..." to the tune of Happy bday.

You mean there's MORE?!?! Oh sweet Jesus! Let's hope that part doesn't work it's way into our region!
Yes, it's like the never ending bday song. I usually just walk away and start cutting the cake if they start with that. lol
The kids here (south carolina) Add cha cha cha too...I am from Philadelphia and I had never heard it before.

I feel extremely lucky that I have never heard that here! Or the cha cha cha thing- hope it never shows up b/c I think I would hate it too.
The kids do sing 'how old are you?' in French after to the birthday song tune, but that is b/c my kids go to an immersion school and that is what they do in class. It is sung though, not yelled, so I can handle it.
