C-sections

MIL opinion on RCS

My MIL drives me nuts sometimes. Love her to death but really.. Given the circumstances of my first child's birth DH and I have decided on a RCS and are COMPLETELY secure with that decision. Well over the holiday's MIL had the nerve to tell me that c-sections are "cheating". Because you know, "the one c-section I was forced to have was SO much easier than my vaginal births. It's not nearly enough work." Oh give me strength!

Re: MIL opinion on RCS

  • Wow, she sounds like a real gem. I would gladly have a vaginal birth over a c-section any day of the week.

I also don't get how someone (who is a mother herself, no less) would dare say giving birth by c-section is "cheating"... as if a vaginal birth is a rite of passage.

  • Oh please... cheating?  Having abdominal surgery, trouble walking and soreness, painful incision for several weeks afterwards??  Ummm, no.  I don't know why people feel the need to say stupid things like that, but it's not cheating.  You made an informed decision for you and this baby, and no one should make you feel bad about that.

  • Yikes- I have done it both ways and would choose vaginal over c/s any day of the week because it is so much easier.  To have major surgery to "cheat" doesn't make any sense considering the recovery time that goes with it.

Clearly she doesn't know what she is talking about.  I can't believe she would even say anything like that to you- or to any woman who is deciding the best way to give birth.

  • Wow!  I had a lot of pain with my section and I pray to God that when we are ready for #2 he will allow me to VBAC.  I don't ever want to experience a c-section ever again!  Cheating...yea right!

PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps...

  • What? That's ridiculous!

  • Ugh.  The "what way of giving birth" pissing contest is so annoying.  If you ask me, I don't think either way is "easy".  Who cares how the kid gets here as long as baby and mom are both healthy and safe.
