I wasn't sure where to post this. But its for my sister. Last Tuesday(12/27) my sister susposedly miscarried(cramping, bleeding) She was 5 weeks pregnant. She went in for some blood work and ultra sound. Hcg level was 27. Ultrasound didn't show anything. Went back Friday for more blood work. Hcg level 62. Went back Tuesday for more blood work. Hcg level 90. Had blood work done today. Doctor told her she wasn't sure if she miscarried or if she was still pregnant? Has anyone had an experiance with this???
Thanks
Re: Hcg levels doubling?
yes, actually she was also on Clomid

I don't say this to scare you but my hcg levels continued to rise but did not double when I had my ectopic. My doctor told me that he thought it was a natural miscarriage but wasn't exactly sure and to "go home and wait it out". Luckily, my instintict told me something was wrong when I had sharp shooting pains. I ended up in the ER and felt perfectly fine after a few hours but was told that my fallopian tube had ruptured, I had internal bleeding and needed immediate surgery.
If her HCG only went from 62 to 90 from Friday to Tuesday, it doesn't sound like a viable pregnancy. Good luck to your sister.
HCGs have to double within 48-72 hours. At the rates you mentioned it sounds like she has a long journey to get through. My sister just had the same thing happen actually. She got a positive test very early at like 4 weeks. Then had some cramping and spotting at 5 weeks. Against my advice because she was so early, she went to a urgent OBGYN Dr, she had no insurance also! They only saw a sac on the ultrasound. Did some betas too. I don't remember her numbers but it was double something similar to your sister's only my sister's were a bit higher, like in the triple digits somewhere. My sister's ended up being a blighted ovum and she took medicine to try to pass it, but it didn't work and then she had to have a D&C. Had my sister waited to go to the doctor one more week they would have been able to see more of a clear answer from the beginning and not put her through weeeeeeks of waiting she had to go through. Multiple betas, ultrasounds, $$. And then her a--hole husband is leaving her. SIGH.
Sorry that was so long, but just want to share someone else's story. I'm sorry for what you guys are about to go through.
Sorry to hear about your sisiter.
I had a similiar experience. I was 10 weeks pregnant but there was no heartbeat, so my doctor ordered bloodwork to see how far along I was thinking I was off on my dates. My bloodwork "looked perfect" and I was told I had nothing to worry about. When I went back again the following week to check again for the heartbeat, there wasn't one. Turns out I had a missed miscarriage at about 6 weeks. Since my body still thought I was pregnant, the sac and uterus kept growing and my blood levels appeared normal, but there was no baby.
