exam today, 39 weeks, soft cervix?

Hi ladies, I had my 39 week exam today and not dilated AT ALL!  Disappointed bc my DS was born at 39 weeks exactly. Anyway, my OB said my cervix is soft. I should have asked her but I wasn't thinking. What does a soft cervix mean? Does that mean things are progressing or not? I can't believe I'm not dilated at all, this is my 2nd pregnancy! I was 2 cm with DS from 37 weeks on....

    I'm due sat and have no dilation and mine is still thick:( Soft means it's getting ready to do what it needs to do.

    It is a start. You are heading in the right direction. You could dilate over night. Or it can take a little while. Everyone is different.

    I have been 2cm dilated, 70 effaced and my cervix has been "soft and favorable" for 3 weeks now. Started back labor yesterday, saw my doc today and she said ride it out as long as you can. Will see.. trying to see if "active labor" will start soon. I hope!

    I had my first son at 39 weeks and I was not dilated at all before I went into labor with him.  At my 38 week appt my cervix was soft and my doula said she would take a soft cervix over 1-2cm dilated.

    This was me yesterday, too. DS was born at 39w1d, but my water broke at 39w0d. I went to my appointment and have made ZERO progress. I was kind of disappointed, but with him I had no progress either and he came two days later, I was 3cm, water broke, with no signs of labor coming. I keep telling myself that could happen again...but the doctor didn't sound so hopeful.

    I was so sure with the second usually coming early that LO would be here by now. I guess this one just needs a little longer!

    I think a soft cervix still means things are getting ready though!

    I had my 38 week appointment yesterday and am not dilated at all, but my cervix is "very soft" and things are getting ready to happen. I also started spotting yesterday, which I'm excited about. I told H and he said "wait, I thought spotting was bad" and I replied, "no, spotting USED to be bad, NOW it's good!"

    He was very confused. Haha.
