Opinion-- should I take him to the dr??

My 2 year old has been running a fever since Wednesday at about 3pm. Yesterday he acted very fussy he wouldn't play much and he didn't eat hardly anything. The fever hasn't been high it's only been aroun 100 or 101 but it hasnt broken at all. He has coughed a few times but it's hardly worth mentioning because it has only been a few times. I'm not sure what's going on with him. Should I take him to the dr? I ask bc his fever is so low and he doesn't really have any symptoms but yesterday he obviously didnt feel well and doesn't seem better today. Thanks

  • I would.  Is he drinking anything?

  • I wouldn't yet.  Are you giving him tylenol?  He doesn't have any other symptoms?

The only thing they would check would be his ears (do they seem to hurt?) or his throat (does he seem bothered by any pain there?).

Does your pedi have Saturday office hours or sick call?

  • I would.  Its likely viral and so they can't do anything, just let it run its course.  But get his ears checked just in case.

  • He said yesterday his head and ear and throat hurt but he is two he may just be saying that. But the way he cries sounds like his throat hurts and he was rubbing his ear but he has done that before and it wasn't his ears.
  • Sore throat, fever, and no cold symptoms could be strep.

I'd take him just to be sure.  You don't want him sick through the weekend without knowing what it is.

  • He is drinking decently I don't think he is dehydrated I just dont want to go in and him have nothing because he has had several viral infections and colds lately so they are probably sick of seeing me. But like you said I don't want him to have strep and me not know.
  • I would go! Who cares what they think. It's your baby and it wouldn't hurt to check for an ear infection and to listen to his lungs.
