I remember reading to have both Lanolin and lanolin free nipple cream so I bought both but now I don't know why! Does anyone know why you would need both? TIA

not sure but i liked the lansinoh nipple stuff better than the medela. medela was so sticky and messy, the lansinoh was thicker and not as sticky. just my opinion though.
Lansinoh and medela are just brand names, they both make lanolin containing cream. You need to check the ingredients. I ended up being allergic to lanolin and it was horrible. The more I put on the worse it got, and the worse it was the LCs were telling me to make sure I put it on before each feeding. It's not that common and dd also had some tongue thrust issues, so a lot of my redness and irritation were blamed on that. It took weeks to realize that I was allergic to lanolin. Absolutely horrible.
If any of you are allergic to lanolin - also make sure that you let the pharmacy know about it for other creams too. At one point I had thrush and needed a specially compounded cream since the normal base cream that they used contained lanolin in it. Also, many hemmorhoid creams contain a lanolin base.
