Bump Gods: Why no Sleep board?

It seems like, on every Bump board, there are loads and loads of posts every day regarding sleep (or the lack thereof) and all of the philosophies surrounding sleep. I mainly read May 2011, Babies 6-9, and Attachment Parenting. I know that in those boards, it seems like lots of people are irritated because the same topics (and debates) come up so frequently. Would it make sense to just have a board dedicated to sleep/sleep training? It doesn't seem to be any less specific than a board dedicated to c-sections or nurseries, for example, and it's an obstacle loads of moms have to deal with.

If this is a stupid idea, I understand. I've definitely gotten a lot of good information regarding sleep from the 3 boards that I read, so maybe it's better to just have the conversations where they currently are. And I guess as our kids get older, the sleep posts will go away, only to be replaced by posts regarding potty training or toddler biting or something else.

Thanks!

You got it. Its not a stupid idea but if a board was created for every age related issue, this place would be a mess.

There are only so many new things that can be said about raising a child.

The more boards you add, the slower and more monotonous each board gets and the more of a snoozefest this site becomes.  It was so much better before they added the month boards and split up 0-6 and 6-12.  Now it's dullsville.

  • I think it's a more controversial topic, and I have a hard time seeing it being a supportive place. That's just based on the overall tone of the sleep posts on TB, though.  It's just like a vaccination board. Some things are better left untried :)

No. I try to block the possible thought from my mind.  And yet, I said it out loud.

  • I would hate it. The judgement and drama would be ridiculous. There is no way I would frequent a sleep train board.

  • I agree with Iris that it would get really monotonous. At first I was really glad they made a c-section board, and I'm sure it is still great for the ladies who recently found out they'll need one or who just had one. But if you're not in those few weeks before or after the c-section, it's not much good. I used to go over there regularly, but the questions repeat themselves and it's pretty boring. Probably the same with the VBAC board, although I will hopefully go over there for my next kid.

  • Please, please, please Bump Gods - don't make any new boards. We already have 50+ boards, not including the BMBs. That's plenty in my book!

  • Fair enough. All excellent points, ladies. I guess it hadn't occurred to me that having a standalone board for each topic would slow things down significantly on the already existing boards. All I was thinking of is how tedious it is to see the same questions come up over and over again. But, that's nothing new really. I suppose that's just the nature of these things and that will never be any different. :)

    Just an idea.

    Carry on!
