SSTN to up at 4am

So our LO used to sleep from 8-6 or 7.  Now she is waking at 4 hungry and wet. Change and feed and she sleeps till 8.  She eats 6 oz formula 5 times a day just wondering if it is a phase or do we need to try and push back bedtime or maybe do a feed at 11pm.  Any help would be great.  I know I shouldnt complain with only waking once but we know she can go the whole night.

  • My LO was the same way, but with him I find that no matter what he gets up at the same time every morning even if he stays awake a bit later if we are out or if he is fussy. I think for Cole it was just a phase and he is back to his normal sleep schedule with us just going with the flow. He is 18.6 pounds and a big boy so for him he is just getting hungry while growing. Hope she gets back to sleeping all night for you soon!

  • try more feedings maybe? Q sleeps through the night, from 9-6 or 7 but he eats 5-6 oz every 1.5-2 hours. Sometimes with even less time in between.

  • My DD was waking up 1x a night at 4am (going to bed 6-7 til 7am) and started also waking hungry at 12a-1a about 3 weeks ago. We are still doing 2x a night. I think part of it is that she doesn't drink as much during the day b/c she's too busy looking around, laughing and talking to me while she eats (I bf). It's cute and fun but she ends up pushing me away much earlier than she used to because she wants to see what's going on around her. I can't force her to eat so she ends up hungry at night.

I felt like I was going to go crazy when she started getting up the 2nd time and finally I just had to tell myself that she's back to 2x a night and that I should expect to get up twice. Once I started expecting to get up 2x, I stopped getting so stressed out when I heard her around 12a-1a.

  • We've never had an entire night of sleep (so jealous of all of you) but we did used to have just one wake up a night for feeding - just like you around 3 or 4.  Now she is regularly waking up twice a night, and last night it was three times.  Like a PP said I am upping the number of oz she gets during the day so hopefully she wont need the extra food at night.  Good luck!

  • You can try increasing the amount at feeds, see if that helps.

I know that DD is really sensitive about growth spurts though - when she is about to go through one her sleep goes out the window and she eats constantly.  A week or two later, she is back on track and all her clothes are a bit tighter and shorter :)

  • Sounds like the 4MW.  My DS has been doing the same - STN since he was 8 weeks old, and then last week, started to wake up at different intervals once per night.  I feel the same as PPs - once per night isn't that awful.  But to go from STN to waking up at 2:00... kind of a shock to the system!  We are hoping it's just a growth spurt too, since he can obviously go all night without a feeding.  GL...
  • We just started using overnight diapers even though he's not quite at the weight on the packaging.  It's helped a lot with the wakings.
