We like the nn Evie for a girl. Although, I'm not set on just putting the name "Evie" on the birth certificate.
The only names I can think of are
Genevieve (which I love, but DH says the US isn't ready for this name).
Evangeline...I don't like it.
Evelyn...I don't like it.
Eva/Eve...Maybe...but not sure.
We are also open to doing a first name like Elizabeth paired with Virginia or something...to get Evie that way.
Any suggestions? Should we just go with Genevieve and cross our fingers?
Re: Names and combos to get to the nickname "Evie"
huh? Genevieve is a legit and normal name and super cute. you guys are over thinking it. Use Genevieve and pronounce it the simpler americanized way of Jenna-veeve.
Proud Mama to cleft cutie
PAL/PGAL Welcome
This. My ex-bf's mom is Yvonne, and her husband always called her Evie which I found adorable. It was the first name, other than those you already mentioned that made me think Evie.
I agree! Genevieve may be a little more uncommon or underused than some of the names he's used to hearing, but it's totally normal! It's beautiful and refreshing!
If your DH likes Genevieve, I say go for it! I fought tooth and nail for that name for DD, but DH woudln't go for it.
Love Evie too, but I agree it's better as a nickname than a full name.
This. Genevieve is very pretty!
Thanks, you guys are awesome!
I would pronounce it JENNA-vieve. And Evie would be EE-vie. Although, I pulled this name from the UK's top baby names and I liked how it looked on paper...I've never heard it used here, so hopefully the mass pronounces it EE-vie too.
I love the french pronunciation...but I know for sure everyone would mess it up lol.
