For those of you that have gone through it - when does it kick in and how long does it last? I feel more ambitious these days, but I'm not sure that it's actually nesting. If it is, I hope it lasts a while because we still have a ton to do!

Re: Question about nesting...
Ha! So, um, you're saying when I came home from work and scrubbed the silverware drawer and rewashed everything in it, I wasn't going crazy?
I;m right there with you pink! I can't wait for the nesting to start, I'm so tired and my house really needs a good cleaning!

I'd like to know too. I am usually Type A too and now all I want to do is sleep.
I think this weekend it hit me hard. I started having thoughts like "OMG, the baby is going to hate this house because the closet in my office is full of disoragnized papers. I MUST clean it out."
In the past week I've also cleaned out all of the junk drawers in our house. I don't even think I can call them junk drawers anymore since they're so organized. It's weird how all of a sudden I've just had this intense desire to purge everything we don't need.

Well I'm a FTM so I only have this new experience to draw on but I think its hitting me hard now. I feel compelled to do something, anything, to prepare for baby everyday. Its like this all consuming feeling. I actually hate it. I've been crying like crazy if things aren't getting done right away and I feel everyday a huge weight on my shoulders like nothing is ready and nothing is in its place. I'm feeling like even totally unrelated things, like cleaning out the microwave, is essential to do before the baby comes. I have tried to explain to my husband how i'm feeling, and why i'm having so many crazy outbursts about household chores and the nursery. But he doesn't get.
I'm kind of on a nesting roller coaster, if there is such a thing. It started a few weeks ago when I cleaned out and reorganized the entire basement storage room. Then I hit a small slump...
I've gotten the nursery most of the way done since then and reorganized the office. This week I've been super tired and my back has been hurting, but it's really, really frustrating because my house needs to be cleaned bad! I forced myself to do laundry, clean the kitchen and vacuum because it was driving me crazy. I almost quit a few times, but pushed through anyway.
I wouldn't say I'm actually "nesting" yet, because my true motivation is everyone coming to my house on Jan. 15 for my baby shower. I really want to have the nursery done and the house presentable.
To answer your question, though: From what other mothers have told me, true nesting is the burst of energy you get about a week before you go into labor. It causes you to scrub the floorboards with a toothbrush and do other insanely detailed projects that you would never normally do. This is usually your first sign that you will be going into labor soon.
