Induction Question?

I'm ready to be done with this pregnancy.  My due date was yesterday. I have been having occasional contractions, but very light.   My md will not induce until 41 1/2 weeks,  I have been 1 cm for two weeks.  I see him tomorrow and want to know if I can request to be inducted earlier or sweeping of membranes.  Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

    I think if you ask him to strip your membranes, that is not an out-of-the-ordinary request. He'll probably check you anyways, so why not? I am kind of surprised that he didn't already do this, my OB offers at 39+ weeks.

    I don't see him inducing you without a medical reason if his policy is 41.5 weeks. But, maybe you could request some testing just to make sure LO is doing alright in there?

    There is no harm in asking, the worst he can say is no! Good luck! :-)

    You could try asking again? I know that they have changed the standard of inducing from 38 weeks to 39 weeks. My doctor wants to induce at 39 weeks because I live an hour from the hospital. If your cervix is "ripe" you could plead your case.

    I'm right there with you.  We have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, and if she doesn't at least give me an induction date (she can humour me!  I need an end in sight!) I will probably break down into a complete hissy fit.  

     

    I'm thrilled that he's fully cooked and all, but the cervix pain, the numbness at the top of my stomach, and the feeling like someone took a baseball bat to my pelvis are all old news.  The only place I'm comfortable is in bed.

     

    Maybe just ask for a date.  I just want a date!  I can get through the next 5-7 days if I know there's  an end, instead of going to bed every night and thinking "Okay...no January 4th baby, let's hope for the 5th..."

    Im 39w4d, and yesterday at my weekly I asked to have my membranes stripped. She wanted to see if I had made progress within the week and I went from 2cm to 3cm, so she didn't want to. She's convinced that my body will go in to labor naturally. I really want to believe her, but ive had weeks of contractions and false labor and still nothing. I also asked to set an induction date. She agreed, but on her terms. So I have to wait til 41wks. She's going to see me the 11th, sweep membranes, and my induction is set for the 14th. Her explanation was that there is a great possibility that I'm not as far along as I think. Since I'm healthy and baby boy is healthy she is not rushing. 

     

    Mentally and physically, having a baby the 14th seems so far away!! When I begged to be induced on the 11th, she turned it down almost immediately because i would be under 41wks. Boo

    I was induced with DS at 40 weeks, 3 days...partly because of an umbilical cord issue...but another part was anxiety.  Maybe tell your doctor you are getting extremely anxious to have this baby...and see what the doc says.  My doctor now, will not let me go past 41 weeks...says the risks start to outweigh the benefits. Good luck.

    I am due tomorrow, but had my last apt yesterday afternoon. At that point I was told I'm only 70% effaced and dialated maybe a 1/2 cm if at all. My OB said they wont induce me until 41 weeks so I have an appointment scheduled do so next Thursday night if I dont have the baby before then. I would certainly talk to your MW about getting induced sooner...at least at 41 weeks. I wouldn't see why that would be such a problem?

    Also, if you're dialated then you should also be able to openly ask for them to sweep your membranes. My OB said she would try this around 38-39 weeks if I was dialated. I would definitely ask your MW.

    The other option, which not sure how open they would be to this, is going to the hospital and having them put this gel on your cervix to "ripen" it more. The nurse mentioned something about this to me a week or 2 ago about inducing options and this is actually what they're going to do to me the night I check in before I get the potocin.
