What are you doing to exercise?

I'm trying to figure out my new workout plan for this year. I have worked out pretty consistently since 6 weeks pp between walking, mama-baby Pilates/yoga classes, and Exercise TV on demand. Well, now it's cold, so walking is out of the question for the next couple months, and my cable just dropped Exercise TV. I still do Pilates and yoga weekly but need more.

I'm thinking about joining a gym again, but I am hesitant to put DD in the playroom. She is still pretty clingy, and I'm afraid of exposing her to unnecessary germs during flu season. Do any of you use gum playrooms? My H works very long hours, so I don't have the option of leaving her with him at home.

Just looking for workout inspiration. I have the 30 Day Shred, so maybe that can get me through January. Once the weather warms up, we can walk/jog...but I need something to hold me over until then.

Re: What are you doing to exercise?

  • I really like doing workout DVDs. Taebo, 30 Day Shred, etc.

Have you ever thought of doing P90X? That would get you through the next 90 days! We have it and I would be doing it if I didn't think it would actually kill me. I'm so out of shape!!

  • We bought an exercise bike last night at a thrift store for $10 and it is now in my living room so I can bike while watching TV and letting J play.  When it warms back up we will put it in the garage and he can jump or something out there with me, but for now, it's too cold for him.

Other than that, we play on the Kinect a lot.  The dance games can give you a great cardio workout, and on Dance Central 2, the dance battle you are next to each other so you don't have to feel all stupid being watched by your hubby lol.

I also have a gazelle in the garage that I don't use a whole lot and a heavy bag.  I have a resistance band that I use when I want to do a little exercise while sitting on my butt.

  • Tomorrow will be day 3 for the 30 day shred, it feels good to get moving again. I can't wait to get out of the house either, and a gym membership isn't quite in the budget. I kick myself for not asking for one for Christmas, oh well. This was no help to you, Im sorry. Im just sticking to DVDs until the weather turns

OMG! Just had to tell you your daughter is adorable and you're so lucky she has enough hair for pigtails!

  • I run six days a week/4 miles a day.   I was a very avid runner before I got pregnant so I'm easing into a routine that works for me.  I work really close to my parents house so I go over there on the days I work and run on their treadmill. My husband watches our son while I work out on the weekends at our gym.  I've lost about 68 of the 76lbs I gained so running has absolutely helped.

  • I wouldn't use my gyms playroom with a young baby. Before DD arrived, I said I would. But now I won't. I should add that I don't have to use it. I'm fortunate that DH and I work almost the same hours so he can watch her on days when I go to the gym and I watch DD when he goes to the gym. Also, I only go to the gym 2x a week to lift weights for 20-30 minutes. I used to go often to do the elliptical but now I prefer to run outside. I have a jogging stroller and can take DD with me, even when its cold so I can run, DH can go to the gym, and DD can take a nap :-) It works for us. If you aren't opposed to walking/running in the cold, its great exercise and if you have a decent stroller you can take LO with you!

  • DH has bad knees, so we ditched our treadmill and bought a really nice elliptical. We've also got gym memberships because we're pretty big on weight training. I've also got a lot of pilates and yoga DVDs. After this week... I'm probably going to have to immerse myself in yoga this weekend!

  • I've just picked up my running this weeks and it's weird how much I missed it. I have a medicine ball at home and looking to get resistance bands.

  • If your DD is on a great sleep schedule I recommend P90X.  We did it before I got pg with Violet and followed it FAITHFULLY and I looked amazing, haha!  Now, Violet isn't the best at a specific bedtime so we have starting doing "The 10 minute workout" also by Tony Horton (guy who does p90x).  Each workout is 10min long so you can do just one if you only have 10 minutes, or you can do up to 3 at a time.  We just started but I like it (not as good as p90x, but it is a 60-90 minute commitment everyday that i don't have right now).

  • I'm trying to go to the gym here whenever possible.  If I go over lunch, it's 25 minutes cardio followed by weights.  After work, I may solo spin for about 40 minutes, maybe weights.  Depending on what time I get out of work.  I think classes are starting back up next week so curious about what will be offered.  Also multiple trips up and down the stairs at home (not by choice) and child lifting/carrying.  Not quite 16 lbs. yet, but after awhile, she's pretty darn heavy!

  • This week I am doing the 30 day jump start from biggest loser. They are ten minute segments, I also add a 15 yoga/pilates exercise from on demand. It works for right now, also I am tracking my diet on my fitness pal.

  • Good tips, ladies. Thanks! My DD is not an easy baby, which means not many naps and she's not good with me leaving her with people. So, that makes working out without her particularly challenging. I found some "home bootcamp" exercises to do, so I'm going to add that to my weekly pilates/yoga classes and the 30 Day Shred. And, when it isn't frigid or snowing out, I'm going to try to continue to walk.

I am like two pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight but would love to lose another 10-15. I'm hoping this plan works!

  • During pregnancy I said I'd do another round of P90X but as of today, I have not exercised a single time. I also give myself a pat on the back when I make myself go upstairs to change Liv rather than use the supplies we have downstairs. Wink

I have a new hot yoga membership that I need to activate and Ripped in 30 days that needs to break out of its box!

  • Look at babybootcamp.com and see if they have any classes in your area, or stroller strides. I'm doing baby boot camp (on the advice of another bumpie :)) and love it. It's a great work out while allowing me to have Rylee with me at all times.
