first nose bleed... ever

I'm back from Japan visiting MIL (I'll refrain from ranting). The plane rides were miserable, I got wicked cankles & ended up in a middle seat with the woman in the aisle seat sleeping for a 4 hour stretch on the 9 hour flight back to the US (12 hour flight to Tokyo then 3 hour flight to Okinawa on way out). I DO NOT recommend traveling internationally while pregnant. I've been home for a couple days, sleeping off jet lag, was finally unpacking, blew my nose and holy blood. I've never had a nose bleed so this was an alarming first. Cankles and nose bleeds, wow. But little girl kicks up a storm for me so it's all good! Happy new year all!

Re: first nose bleed... ever

  • I've had the same issue the past 2 days! I usually blow my nose in the am to get all the gunk out. Past two days have been bloody! Gross! And I feel you on the cankles. I cant wear hardly ANY shoes right now because I am so swollen!

I am envious that this is your first! I have always gotten nose bleeds. Sometimes it can be alarming. I can get them randomly, for no reason, and at the most unwanted times! Hate them.

But, glad you have gotten to rest. That sounds like an overwhelming trip and so exhausting!

  • I used to get the ALL THE TIME when I was little because of my allergies.  You've never had a nosebleed, I've never been stung by a bee...but I digress...

I got my first nosebleed in about 15 years last week.  I had forgotten how to make it stop, so I just stuffed some tissue in it!

  • I was pretty shocked. I had to look up how to stop it, thanks Dr. Google! For my first nose bleed, I make up for with migraines. Tongue Tied
  • Ugh, I have had the worst nosebleeds.  One was so bad that I couldnt switch tissues without bleeding everywhere.  I had to throw that shirt out. I was actually worried about passing out bc I was losing so much blood! Good luck with thenm and yay toi feeling baby girl!

  • You're not alone in the nosebleed department. I had my first nose bleed in 12 years the other day. And of course I was having the worst day ever and that just added to the day and then hormones took over and I burst into tears...husband thought I was nuts. LOL Ever since the nosebleed I've been having a major stuffy and leaky nose though. And when I blow my nose I get all kinds of thick crap out (sorry TMI). Everyone says it's normal. I always feel like I get the obscure pregnancy symptoms that everyone thinks I'm crazy for having because they never had it or heard of having it while pregnant.

Oh and PS...I discovered cankles for the first time in my life yesterday while in the shower! LOL *sighs* I just chalk it up to it being all part of the fun...living the dream for 9 months. =oD

  • I've been getting them a lot lately.  Especially when I get up in the middle of the night to pee.  I used to pretty much be able to get up pee and go back to bed without really 'waking up'  but now that I have to spend 5 minutes blowing my nose and controlling the blood, kinda sucks.  I've gotten a few at work, but thankfully not when I've been in with a patient.   I asked my MW about them and she recommended getting a humidifier and/or using nose spray.... so, we'll try the spray first and maybe just buy the humidifier off our registry to have early.
