Today at my 32 wk.appointment, the doctor did a fetal fibronectin test to detect preterm labor since I've been having so many BH contractions. She asked if I had intercourse in the last 24 hrs and I said no. However, afterward my husband reminded me we didn't have intercourse, but we did "fool around" and he used his fingers on me. I know intercourse can cause the test to be inaccurate and now I'm wondering if I should have let her know about the other sexual activity...I don't know how sex affects the test. Have any of you had this test? Any idea why sex affects it?
Re: Preterm Labor Test & Sex
I think it is a couple different things.
I haven't had this test yet and I don't know if my dr does it. I would maybe call your dr's office and ask the nurse if it matters.
semen can soften the cervix.
