I was just wondering if any moms could shed some light for me.. I just found out about baby number 2 and im supper exicted. The first go with little man i ended up having a c-section and loved it, but know im like well how do they do it do they cut over my scar or make a new one? does it hurt more or is it the same?

Any help or stories would be great please!! -S

  • I found my recovery with my second to be easier than my first.  Congrats on your exciting news!!!

  • Just from my research, they use the same incision line and generally recovery is easier, though there are exceptions to everything.  Good luck!
  • Congrats on baby #2! Usually, they will cut right over your old incision. In some instances they can't, which would mean you'd get a new incision but that's unlikely. My 2nd c/s was SOO much better and recovery was ridiculously easy. My first was a complete nightmare so I guess it wasn't hard to top but I was very pleased with the way everything went the second time around. Good luck!

  • I'm having my 3rd CS and my OB will cut on the same incision site. Thank God!

  • For me it was a more difficult recovery this time because I had to take care of a baby instead of the Nicu. They use the same incision. My c:s were a year and 20 days apart

  • Just had my second a month ago and recovery has been a breeze.  It sucked with the first one because of the long labor before hand.  The went right over the same scar and in fact fixed some of the ugly from my first one where it healed weird.

  • For my rcs with DS2, they used the same incision as previously done with DS1. My recovery was about the same. I up and walking around within 24 hours and after a week was doing everything at home pretty much since I was alone with a newborn and 15 month old.

It did take the OB a little longer to stitch me up the 2nd time b/c of scar tissue but it was like an extra 10 minutes. Nothing huge.

  • Congrats on your pg!!

My recovery with DD2 was so much easier than DD1.  Very pleased with it.  My OB actually used the same incision site and before stitching me back up cut out all of the (incision site) scar tissue.

I'm hoping that I can have the same positive experience next month with my third (and final) c-section.

  • From my understanding and experiences the surgeons cut out the old scar entirely which creates a new one. This second c/s recovery has been tougher but I think mostly because I am more tired from having a toddler, and I had a severe allergic reaction to the steri strips which made a full week miserable of my recovery.

    Ditto.

  • I have had 2 and am on my way to a third. For me they were able to put an incision directly over the first one and my scar looked great. As far as healing goes, I healed super fast the first time around and maybe not so much with the second. I would have to say that was my fault though, because I was in a hurry to push myself. I left the hospital a day after I delivered and then went home and proceeded to vacuum and do other ridiculous house chores that I should have not been doing. Because of that it took me a lot longer to feel healed compared to the first one but overall the experiences were similar. The second was nice in a way though because I knew what to expect. Congratulations on your second! Don't stress too much it will be so wonderful once he or she gets here :)
