To-Do lists...

I'm trying to become better organized this year so I've been thinking about to-do lists.

Do you do to-do lists?

If so do you do a daily one, weekly, monthly, or just a general one that needs to get done but not by a certain time or some combo of them?

Where do you keep this list(s)?

Any suggestions about to-do lists?

Re: To-Do lists...

  • Last year I tried several different iPhone apps, keeping a list on my computer, etc, but what works best for me is very low tech. Every Sunday I make a list of what I need to do that week - handwritten on a pad of paper. I keep it on the kitchen counter next to our phone and stack of mail/bills with a pen attached to it. I cross things off as I do them and add things as necessary. The following week I start a new list and put anything I didn't do at the top of that week's list.

  • Ditto pp only I use my cozi app for it. I keep the longish to do list on it. Things like call school district about IEP, or call pedi, make dental appt, take car for oil change, return christmas gift to Macy's. I don't put housework on it.

I also have a list in the kitchen of chores for the day. Wash dishes, vacume, laundrey you know the house chores. I have them on magniets so I can arrange them in priority each morning and then I try to get through the list. Sometimes DH gets home and if I have had a busy day I ask him to do two things off the list, otherwise he just does one. It helps me not bug him about things.

I am a list maker and always have been so this stuff feels like 2nd nature to me, not so for DH and it took him a long time to "get" it. But without my lists I am lost!

  • i was going to say, you dont have an app for that?

  • Even before I became pregnant, I was notoriously forgetful so it's imperative that I stay organized. I tried using an old-fashioned day planner to schedule all my events and appointments but I found that I never remembered to check it. Now, thanks to technological advances, I get instant reminders.

I have an Android smart phone that syncs to my Google email and calendar as well as several other email accounts. I log my appointments onto my online calendar and select the different reminder types such as 1 day or 1 hour before my doctor's appointment, 2 day reminder for a party, 3 week reminders for birthdays, etc. The best part is I can choose on how to be reminded: phone, text, email, online pop-up, etc. I also log in my to-do lists on my calender (there is a notes section which shows up in my reminders). For instance, I never remember my shopping lists so I plug it into my calendar and set it to pop up an hour before I go shopping. I set up my phone to syn with my calendar quite frequently so the shopping list can be pulled up at any time on my phone.

Now I am forced to remember everything and as a result, I'm ALWAYS early or on time for all my appointments.  Hope this helps but even if it doesn't, good luck to you!   :-)
